Weekend Plans

We decided to head for the lake on this gloomy and chilly weekend. OK, actually the bug man called and needs to service the lake place today and since I have to be there anyway we might as well stay. I am not sure I feel justified by griping about having to go somewhere but I am feeling a little bent out of shape.  I love going there, but it always means a lot of loading and unloading and cleaning for a quick trip. I think I had rather go and stay a week at a time which would make the loading and unloading and deep cleaning before we leave worth it. Ah! First world problems!

Since I have limited internet access there I will be reading your blogs but not commenting. Y'all have a great weekend and "Go whoever is playing whatever other team in the Super Bowl"

  1. Enjoy your weekend. We are getting snow so other than shoveling and putting our garage back together after the damage I think I will be reading and dog-snuggling :)

    1. The lake sounds much better than your foot and a half of snow!

  2. I keep forgetting how far a drive to the lake you have. Once the new cabin is finally done, we probably will do a lot of Sunday Trips there, regardless of weather, more as an excuse to for me to disconnect from home, but I do know what you mean about loading and unloading. As we will actually have a permanent room, we can leave some things there. My MIL hated things being left behind, and we really only used the place late May (when we had 8-9 months of cleaning to do-bugs and mice etc. ewe)to labor day, so couldn't relaly leave things over the winter anyway. Occasionally a nice fall day we went as well, but once the water was off in mid October before a hard freeze, it just wasn't pleasant. We're on the road all day Saturday for Show choir and will not be doing any super bowl gatherings. Our door is open for anyone that wants to join DH for frozen pizza, beer, and chips though.

    1. The lake is really close. I was meeting the bugman between 3-5:30 and just decided to stay the night, then TheHub decided to come stay for the weekend which changed the dynamics totally. I was just feeling a little bent out of shape because if it was just me for the night I would zap a frozen dinner, have a cup of coffee the next morning and leave, have to wash one fork and one coffee cup. Instead I had to load in food for 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches, wash sheets, towels, mop floors and stuff I would not have done if it had just been me. We have major ant problems and have to leave everything spotless.

  4. How far away is it? When we lived in Northern Virginia, we had a little house at the lake- not lake front property though. We kept the boat in the garage and hauled it to the ramp when we wanted to water ski. I didn't have to bring anything but some perishables since we had a fully stocked kitchen/ 3 bedrooms/2 baths and we would often just drive up for the day- it was about 50 miles away. We had a lot of fun there but I sold it and the boat after DH died and gave all the furniture and dishes away. Memories! Have fun.

    1. Depending on traffic it is anywhere from 45 minutes (requires driving a little fast, but I have done it) to 2 1/2 hours (5 o'clock Friday traffic)
I would prefer a day trip more often because it does not require washing sheets and towels. We keep the kitchen somewhat stocked but have a horrible time with ants so once something is opened, it has to be completely consumed or brought back with us

    2. OOH ants- I've fought that battle here in Florida. I keep a bottle of cider vinegar ready to spritz the moment I see one. As for sheets, I doubt if I changed the beds over once a summer hahaha. We did not have a washer/dryer there.

  5. Getting ready for going anywhere is really annoying. Especially long trips or camping. Sometimes it seems like it takes more time to get ready and clean up than it does doing the actual trip. However, I have been trying to have a better attitude in this area and that helps some.

    1. We did have a good weekend and spent most of Saturday antiquing, but I was really ready for a weekend at home. Oh well!

  6. I love your level of engagement in the Super Bowl. ;)

I too am somewhat put off by weekend trips. Partly because I always have to recover from any travel, even relaxing vacations. But I usually don't regret going, just the prep and headache of getting out the door. And often the laundry after.

    1. I love college football and keep up with players all over the country. Not a big NFL fan though!

  7. It's nice you can go this time of year. I used to have a trailer on a lake but the park where it's situated wasn't open during the winter. Go Patriots!! Aren't I clever? Except for the fact I don't know who they're playing?

    1. It is nice and our winders are so mild we don;t even have to worry about the pipes freezing. It was just not my plan to have a weened adventure. Now that the game is on and I know who is playing I am pulling for the Falcons

  8. If that is your view of the lake from your place, then, it is gorgeous! Don't know how far of a drive you have to make to get there, though. But your post reminded me of the time when I was growing up and we used to go to my step-dad's home for the weekends - it was 72 miles away but in the mountains and it would take us a good 3 hours to get there on winding roads (and I was not a good traveler, those days). We'd leave Friday night and come back Sunday nights.

"Go whoever playing whatever other team" is right! LOL.

    1. That is the view from the outer deck outside the den. It is a pretty quick drive I just wanted to spend the night by myself and come home the next morning. Instead TheHub decided to come down too and make a weekend of it.

  9. Our vacation house was about 4 hours away from our house, so we tried to do at least two nights, or not at all. Now that we are a plane ride away, so usually go for a week. I hear you on the laundry & cleaning through! It can add another few hours on the trip.

  10. I hope you had a great mini-vacation. My wife and I have been discussing ideas for little stuff like this. :)
