Oh no just 22 weeks till Christmas

We are now officially on the downhill side of Christmas, and we all know how quickly things speed up when going down hill.  However it is insanely hot here and nothing says "Hey Anne, why don't you do something Christmasy?"

Our house does have central a/c which makes the inside bearable and we have a separate unit to keep the upstairs cool, but no one is here to use the bedrooms thus we keep the thermostat set at 81 and close it off from the main level. 81 degrees is not unbearable, but it is hotter than I want to be, so unfortunately all the plans I had for finishing the room of horrors are on hold until the weather breaks. Yeah, like I was really going to do that! I still have at least 14 weeks before things are critical, right?

I do have several new to me recipes of Christmas cookies I wanted to try, but it was also just too hot to turn on the oven, so I didn't, nor will I until this heatwave is over.

I guess the long and short of it is I may or may not do anything even remotely resembling Christmas prep depending on the weather.

Ho, Ho, Hot!
Anne

  1. Stay cool. I can't wait to hear what recipes you try but I understand not turning on the oven. After two brutal weeks of heat indexes at 120 we finally got a cool front. Low's in the 50's, highs in the 70's low 80's with very little humidity are much appreciated. I know we are not finished with summer weather but I'll take any break we can get.

    1. I would love a break from the heat. We are supposed to have a cold spell with highs in the upper 80's for a couple of days. I'm game!

  2. We have AC, but there have been several things I've been putting off because the heat, both inside and outside. But we had a cold front come through last night, so it's bearable again. The plan is to get a lot of yard work done.

    1. I am guessing we stole some of your heat because we have an excess of it.

  5. We went to two estate sales today and they had full tables of Christmas decor. I barely looked at it as we cleaned out our Christmas decorations the last few years and I don’t want to add to my collection anymore. I can’t believe it is only 14 weeks until Christmas! That makes it seem so much closer! 😳

  6. Those recipes will wait until fall. I feel August may be incredibly hot as well.

  7. All the new recipes I want to try end with "bake in oven" ... not happening, Smalls. I dread seeing our next utility bill, but. Like the Boars Head tagline goes, "Compromise elsewhere."

  8. There is no way I could tolerate 81 in the house. I need the cool ac to breathe! Since the ac unit in the kitchen on the floor blows right in front of the oven, I could bake if I had a mind to do so without heating up the kitchen/house. But, I have no desire to bake anything. I suppose I would miss the green tree covered with red decorations, so I will quit fretting about getting it down.
