This below was all written before the week headed south. For now Christmas planning is shelved for a while, which means the room of horrors will just be a closed door when Son1 and family come here. Other things are much more important at the moment.
I did go upstairs the morning after posting just 31 weeks and worked in the room of horrors. Though I did not get it anywhere near finished I did make some headway, including finding a few things to put on our local buy nothing FB page. I had several toys for Pip when she was little that were just taking up space.
In addition to getting rid of those I managed to get the Halloween decor sorted, culled, and packed away. As soon as I post this some random Halloween bit is bound to surface in the room, that was hidden under some also random piece of Christmas decor.
I really need to measure the closet and post the size so you can imagine the amount of holiday decor I own. (Not including the 5 trees which live in the basement). Right now the contents of said closet are emptied out into the room and it is truly overwhelming. Excessive? Yes, and not in the best way.*
* In the not too distant past, the Christmas tree in the den had over 600 ornaments on it. How do I know? One year I counted every single ornament as I took them off the tree. I did decide I could get by with 300 or so and the tree still looked very full, but did I get rid of the overage or just pack it away?
I feel like my whole house is like your room of horrors so I get it, but 600 Christmas tree ornaments??? Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI know 600 ornaments on a single tree is excessive which is why I paired down to 300
DeleteI suspect you packed the excess away - or perhaps I am just tarring you with my own brush.
ReplyDeleteGood wishes continue to flow to you, your sister and indeed the whole family.
Yes, I packed all the excess away isntead of just getting rid of it then. I guess I needed to assure myself I would never want to spend 3 days decorating a single tree again.
Delete30 weeks until Christmas?? You just freaked me out a bit.
ReplyDeleteTime waits for none of us does it?
DeleteI have done zero for Christmas prep. I have lacked in posting too. I'm in the midst of getting our garden planted right now.
ReplyDeleteGarden planting is way more important and there are still a lot of weeks left.
DeleteNow, you've got me curious as to how many ornaments we put on our tree. 300 seems like a lot, but maybe not. I got rid of some a couple of years ago, but there are still plenty left--all with a special story.
ReplyDeleteI always started at the center of the tree and decorated outward. Each branch had a minimum of 4 ornaments on it, along with what I called the frosting . . . glass icicles and glass snowflakes. The den tree was beautiful with or without the lights on, but it took me 3 days to decorate it and that is just too long.
DeleteI am excessive in the other way. My little white replacement table top tree from DG, which replaced my burned up table top neon blue tree, also from DG, is the extent of my decorating for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThe exceptions are the two ornaments I dig out and display, a couple or kitchen towels, a couple of Christmas plates, and pot holders … lol. I feel I am too minimalist but no one comes to my house. We either meet at my ex husband’s large house and I cook, or at a restaurant before or after Christmas, or I fly out West around Christmas time but usually right after. A couple of my kids have crazy work schedules due to one being an RN and another helping run a popular chain restaurant. Cindy in the South
I am definitely not a minimalist, but I am in the process of minimizing. If it were up to TheHub we could have one of those tabletop ceramic trees with the light brite peg "bulbs"and he would be fine.
DeleteOne of my all-time favorite songs; I love this version you've chosen. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI like it too!
DeleteYou clearly like your holidays, especially Christmas! Six hundred ornaments on one tree? You have the patience of a saint to put that many on the tree, let alone remove them and pack them away.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand your occasional procrastination - it must seem overwhelming.
I do like decorating for the season, but I am no longer willing to give 3 days to one tree. Right now the room of horrors looks like a holiday bomb was set off in the room
DeleteWow and I thought I was bad... Every year I think I am going to have the perfect theme tree and then I see all the old kid decorations, and my heart goes Ahhh....
ReplyDeleteI am horrible and I know I am, but I honestly do like the way it looks when it is all done. I can still have things done and pare back a lot.
DeleteThe weeks are passing too quickly.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
They are!
DeleteGood job getting the Halloween decorations packed away. That is progress. This is the perfect song for this subject. 😂
ReplyDeleteI am counting Halloween as a major accomplishment
DeleteI have 9 rubbermaid totes with Christmas in it. Maybe I should pare it down?
ReplyDeleteOnly if you want to. I have so much and a lot of it I will never use again.
DeleteLOL...I am glad that you at least got Halloween stuff organized.
ReplyDeleteSmall victories!
DeleteYou are making progress if you have Halloween decor organized and put away. But, yes, it makes perfect sense to close the door on the Room of Horror for now when other things need your time and attention. I continue to send well wishes your way. May you, your sister and her husband be well and may you all be blessed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bless.
DeleteChristmas!? Eeek i don't even want to think how quickly it will come again!
ReplyDeleteIt is approaching much quicker than it used to. Of course I am older and perceptions of time change.
DeleteYou're making good progress! I'm tempted to get rid of all my Christmas decorations. I do love to have decorations but I just hate the getting out and packing away. I wonder if anybody runs a holiday decorating service....
ReplyDeleteI know here I could hire it out, in fact I could hire an organizer to go through the room of horrors with a fine tooth comb and get things in order, but I want to go through each item and get rid of things I no longer use that are just clutter.
DeleteI just went back and read your last post. I'm sending up prayers for you and your sister. I know that she loves having you here for her.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are making progress. I've been trying to picture your room and closet in my head! haha!
Have a beautiful day my friend.
