I Could Jump for Joy, But I would Hurt Myself

As usual I have my list of joys for the week. Having just completed week 27 we are on the downhill side of '21. It's hard to believe isn't it!
I was shocked to see Back to School supplies out already in the stores. Wasn't July 4th just last weekend? I guess Christmas stuff will appear  soon!

Friday: It is amazing what a little scrubbing can do once most of the workers leave! Mom's house looks so nice. I got the hardwoods in the den cleaned, the kitchen in show shape, and the hall bath ready!  The best thing that happened was a surprise visit from DIL2 who had a gap of time between her home visits and dropped by Mom's to eat her lunch. I love getting to see her.
Later TheHub and I  did our nightly lap swimming before we drove to pick up some dinner for our "date night". (Takeout at home and watching Lupin on Netflix)

Saturday: We got several errands done in the morning, including going to our favorite produce stand. I love doing business with the lovely farmer who runs it. Did I ever mention we get freshly baked sourdough bread there also? We had some fine cheese and tomato sandwiches for lunch!
Later we swam, then watched another episode of Lupin.

Sunday: I am not sure about the rest of you, but we have a tradition of watching The Nathan's Hotdog Eating Championship every 4th of July. It is an incredibly gross event to watch, so we talk about how horrible it is but watch it just the same. I was glad to learn via an interview that the winner, Joey Chestnut, does his competitive eating "for all of his fans'.  Son2 and DIl2 made it to our house just in time for the grossness! Then we made our 4th bbq meal.
This was one of the coolest 4th's I can ever remember. The high was in the 80's so when one of our neighbors came over to swim we were able to spend  and the rest of the day hanging out by the pool!
We no longer go to watch the local fireworks, preferring to stay at home and watch The Boston Pops 4th show on television.

Monday: TheHub's office was closed to observe the 4th, so he was home all day.  We had a very nice day just hanging around the house, reading and talking. The day was gorgeous and very pleasant with highs in the upper 80's. That is just unheard of here during July, but I was so glad to have it. For the first time ever we are able to enjoy summer days on our screened porch.

Tuesday: I think the biggest joy was finding a different painter who will be painting the cabinets in Mom's kitchen. We are paying a bit more than I wanted to, but part of the difference is getting it done in two days rather than waiting a couple of weeks for them to begin.
The temperature was still not hot, but it has been very humid. I did not get to swim and it irritates me that I did not take the time to do it.
I did have a wonderful chat and laughs with Sluggy!
We watched the first episode of Fargo (Hulu), and it is definitely a dark comedy, but it is right up our alley! Thanks to DIL2 and Son2 for the heads up!

Wednesday: The painters we hired for Mom's kitchen cabinets were worth every penny. The entire kitchen was tented with plastic tarps and they worked like Trojans!  It was an unexpected joy to find someone who was diligent about doing a really fine job.  I will absolutely use him again and will recommend him to everyone.
Son3 played in a friends band at a venue in Brooklyn Wednesday night, and we were able to stream it. Technology is wonderful!

Thursday: Son of a Gun! The painters were finished by 9 a.m.  They did a fantastic job about as quickly as painting could be done! What a joy to have things done quickly and well!
I found someone who wanted the remaining Christmas items that were Mom's. The local buy nothing Facebook group is such a wonderful thing!
The day was gorgeous! Though it is humid, we are still having cooler temps than normal for July. TheHub and I planned on doing a little running around after he got home for the office, so I swam midday. We have had a good bit of rain and the water was nippy, but it does make me swim a little faster.
Another huge joy (since ours are not producing yet) was a bag of tomatoes TheHub brought home from the office. One of his co-workers is having a bumper crop of them this year and brought some to share. They must not have to deal with chipmunks!

I hope you find your joys for the week. They are always out there!

And just in case any or you are interested my beautiful DIL Helena is performing tonight at FirstLive in Brooklyn. The show will be live streamed, but it does have a $10 ticket fee. This is the link for the Show Tonight at 6:30 central, 7:30 eastern, 5:30 mountain, 4:30 pacific.

  3. I watched a news clip of the Nathan’s Hot Dog contest. I think this was his fourth win or something like that.

Sounds like your Moms house is coming along nicely. How nice to have such good and fast painters.

  4. You are so uplifting and happy my friend. I have watched Nathan's contest before and found it engrossing. (Big on the grossing part:)) I always love to talk to Slugs. I think she is going to Sis's this next week and I am jealous. Sis has all sorts of fun planned, but told Slug's she has to use a wheel chair in IKEA as Sis and I broke her last time we were together and I want her whole for our cruise. SO she was told suck it up buttercup, you are going to be pushed until that knee heals.

  7. I doubt I can still jump. When I feel like taking a risk, I will try it.

  8. I often get an urge to jump and run but both are forbidden because of my heart disease, plus I could not begin to do either. Two highlights of this week for me. 1.) Colonoscopy. UGH! 2.)Youngest grandchild graduates from high school and the program was live streamed.HOORAY!

  12. It must have been a good week, especially with painters accomplishing something. I want to watch Fargo. I started once and didn't get into it so I need to try again. I watched a short documentary once about the preparation competitive eaters use before their contests. It kept me from ever watching the actual contests.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. The hotdog eating contest is so gross but the emcee is so good that we really watch just to hear his spiel.

    1. You are not kidding about their worth. If my pipe is busted who is more valuable? Movie star or really fine plumber?

Hey y'all thanks for leaving a comment. They are much appreciated. I read them all and do my best to respond to them, except for trolls, spam, and AI. I delete those suckers forever.
