I lived through yesterday thinking all day long it was Thursday, so according to my convoluted calendar this post is spot on. For the rest of you who seem to know what day of the week it is, apologies and congratulations to you for being in the now.
Because Halloween is approaching I am changing the tone of this post just a tad. (Well that, and the fact that I screwed up the lettering on my gift of the week and don't have time to correct it right now. We are having overnight guests tonight and since I thought I had another day to get ready for them, I am scrambling to clean the entire upstairs before they get here)
So this is a quick and easy welcome Fall/Halloween treat. (Plus with a few leaves around it, it will be a nice centerpiece on my kitchen table and hopefully will look like I put some thought into it, rather than throwing the fastest possible thing together. I guess I also should thank Mom who needed me first ting out of the chute this morning, so I was at CVS butt early and snagged the components of this treat.
1 bag smore's m & m's
1 bag candy corn m & m's
1 bag candy corn
1 can cocktail peanuts
Mix these suckers together in a large bowl. Put them into a serving container that has a lid. I have a glass pumpkin I picked up for a buck or 2 a long time ago and it actually looks pretty good in it. ( When the kids were young I used to keep bubble gum balls that looked like eyeballs in it but we have grown beyond Eyeballs of Terror) I suggest putting a spoon out beside it just to keep people from putting their hands all over it. If you have some Halloween muffin liners it would be nice to set them out on the side as well. This tastes like a Payday candy bar with some melty and crunchy bits added to it. I am not a big fan of candy corn or Payday's so this is a really good thing for me to have hanging around. It is candy that I can take or leave and when it is possible I prefer to have something I am indifferent to living in a candy jar.
Now go wrestle up some spooks, spirits or bags of candy and get your Halloween on!
I've never had that mix, but I've heard it's great! I bought Sour Patch Kids/Swedish Fish for Halloween, but am requiring myself to keep the bag sealed until Halloween. Those are my favorite! If the bag gets opened early . . . I'm sure you can imagine what will happen. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is why I wait until the day before Halloween to buy candy. I have about 70 or 80 kids each Halloween and I would hate to gorge on that much ahead of time!
DeleteI hate to be a day off. That looks good. I have the perfect little decorated scoop/spoon for that concoction. I got rid of my glass pumpkin and wish I had it back!

I hate being a day off too, especially if I am a day behind!
DeleteGetting ready a day early is a bummer for sure but not like being a day behind! One week, I was a day off all week long! I never seemed to figure it out that week. I was not ill, but the Monday holiday completely through me for a loop.

I've never cared for candy corn but I love peanuts and Paydays. My husband loved Heath bars and no one but me liked Almond Joys. We used to raid the kids candy and eat those. I always make some cut out sugar cookies but I hate decorating them so just frost the pumpkins orange!
ReplyDeleteIf you had told me how much this tastes like Payday candy bars I would have sworn you were lying, but the taste is virtually the same.
DeleteVery cute! I do have Halloween liners left from last years clearance. I ran out of regular and had to use for real this summer, but a reserve pack is at the ready. Sadly, it doesn't matter if these are my favorites or not-I would still have my paw in that bowel every time I walked by.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I understand!
DeleteYour 'put a spoon out' took me down a very dark path. Which I am going to inflict on you.
ReplyDeleteYears back I was visiting a friend who had two small children. There was some grated cheese on the table to be added to the meal. Her children helped themselves. With their mouth. Aaaargh. No cheese for me.
Spoons are good. Spoons are very good. Spoons are EXCELLENT.
Spoons are just critical! We went to a family thing recently with all kinds of finger foods on a low table. Low tables and 2 year olds are an invitation to really disturbing visuals.
DeleteS'mores M&M's?! Candy corn M&M's?! Really? I know that M&M's had expanded, but I didn't realize that these flavors were out there. Is there any chocolate in the candy corn one?
ReplyDeleteI love Paydayss so maybe I'll look for this stuff on sale after Halloween and make some.
"For the rest of you who seem to know what day of the week it is, apologies and congratulations to you for being in the now."-I am sorry, my dear, I laughed really, really, hard at that sentence.
ReplyDeleteThis is a "recipe" that I think I can handle. ;p
Don't apologize for laughing. I was really just trying to make light of my total incompetence!
DeleteHow does it happen, I wonder, that we get a day or so off from reality? It happens to me a bit more often than I'd like to admit. Anyway, this looks fantastic and since I DO love Paydays, I think this is something I'll be making for my job. Where I spend only two days a week but where the candy jar I fill gets a daily workout. ;)Also I have mini cupcake liners that are halloween themed and this will be a fantastic way to actually USE them!
ReplyDeleteUm, what size bag of candy corn do you use? The one that is about equal to the M&Ms?
DeleteI used the largest bag they had, maybe twice the size of the m&m bag. The candy corn and nuts are the "meat" of this treat. The m&m's are just the sidekicks.
