Oh No! Just 3 Months and 9 Days till Christmas

Man oh man! Have I ever been flunking Christmas prep!
I guess I have been in a funk with the extreme heat. I need to think about cooler temps. maybe a funky Christmas tune will help!

In August while I was cleaning one of the laundry room cabinets, I found a tracing of Pip's 3 year old little hand. I cut it out, and decided to make clay handprints I can weave through a garland for the dining room windows. This way even though she will not be here, a part of her will be with us throughout the holidays.

Also while cleaning the same cabinet, I found an almost full box of Christmas cards. I have added several new names to our Christmas Card list and have gone ahead and addressed them to the people I added. The cards are really nice cards and this way I can use them without worrying about someone getting the same card from us two years in a row.

I did buy a couple of gifts. I can't say what they are because they might be for a couple of relatives who sometimes read the blog.

Other than that, I have started putting together ideas on what to serve at the Christmas party My Beloved Sister and I are having for our childhood neighborhood friends.  The party is scheduled for Dec 2, which will make me have everything done and decorated as soon as Thanksgiving is over. I don't know about the rest of you, but for me time flies, so I need to start early.

I am hoping then 2nd half of September sees great strides, but I know me and doubt it will. I seem to work best under pressure, and I am an excellent procrastinator.

Gotta get my rear in gear.
Ho Ho How are I going to do that?

  3. Since I won't be home for Christmas this year, I'm on a self-imposed deadline to have Christmas complete by the end of October. It's going to be tight!
As for your efforts, I am 100% sure you'll get it done ...and beautifully too.

    1. I always start early but I have a hard and fast early deadline for the week following Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving night might be a flurry of moving boxes and arranging furnishing to accommodate the Christmas decorations.

  6. I've managed to squirrel away several Christmas presents this month, which makes me happy as that will be less I have to do in December. I love your idea with Pip's 3 year old handprint! I've been thinking about the food for Christmas too. Gordon's Food Service sells these really nice cheese trays for under $10 and I'm thinking that would be a good addition to the family get together where we serve finger foods.

    1. I personally had rather do the hard stuff right now, even though it is still insanely hot, than be in a panic later. Its really easy for me to look through Christmas magazines for ideas right now and formulate a plan. I would like to have the brunt of my Christmas gifts bought and wrapped before Thanksgiving.

  7. You'll get it done with your usual flair! You've bought some of your gifts and addressed some of your cards already! You are miles ahead of some of us.

    1. I am a procrastinator by nature so I need some true deadlines set for me, even if I am the one who is setting them.

    1. Oh wow, a wedding in November will be wonderful but it does add to a Christmas crunch.

    2. Our daughter got married on November 5th here in Southern Ontario. It was a cool, crisp, but sunny day. There were still a few fall leaves on the trees, it was lovely. I hope for gorgeous weather for your grand daughter.

    3. I have to make a start on Christmas, I am normally more organized than this, just can't seem to get my butt in gear!

    4. That is my problem, engaging the gears that get me moving.

  9. That was an interesting rendition of Silver Bells. Our Christmas prep has gotten as far as maybe we should start thinking about whether we want to make any of the gifts. :)

    1. I thought it was a weird rendition. I saw a video of the group recently and decided I needed to use one of their songs. I don't think I will be listening to them often though.

  10. It doesn't seem possible that Christmas is so close, but it is. Right now, I'm focusing on a deep Fall cleaning of the house, then all of the outside winter prep.
Love the idea of doing something with her little handprint. That will be so cute.

  11. You know, this should inspire me to start picking up little gifts here and there for Christmas... I got some decent stuff on sale last week!

    1. I shop sales but am not above giving consumable gifts. I like having a lot of packages under the trees so last year I wrapped and gave my sister a box of saltines and a 4 pack of toilet paper as two of her gifts.

  12. I was just noodling in a post that September is when I start my preChristmas thinking/ planning dates wise. I have fewer gifts to buy now because Im doing a large one to each kid in a financial way but woukd like to increase the experiences of Christmas season.

    1. We do monetary gifts for our sons and dils but I also do physical gifts for them too. Nothing big, but several things for them to unwrap. I still do gifts for Pip and My Beloved Sister

  13. I've been thinking about Christmas and making plans. I think all my gifts are purchased other than a gift card, but I don't have to buy for many people. I'm planning on two trees this year -- one in the dining room and one in the living room.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. That's great! I don't have many to buy for, but I do have several gifts for each person. None are gigantic and they are not expensive gifts but it still takes a little time to find them, since I like them to be specific to each persons likes and tastes.

    1. I hope it will be. We all got together this summer and reacquainted. We have all reached that age where if we plan on staying in touch, it has to be intentional.
