Sleep Blogging

I am looking for an answer to a purely hypothetical question. If you are trying to read your blog on your Ipad while in bed (nearly asleep) and delete a post accidentally while half awake is there a way to retrieve it or is it gone for the ages it?  Not that it happened to me or anything but I am somewhat curious.

    1. It is incidental to my life but I was curious if it could be retrieved. Guess not.

  2. On Blogger? It's gone if you actually deleted it. If you closed the window by mistake, it might be in your "Drafts" but I'm pretty sure you've already checked there. From the Help section: "Once you delete a post, you won't be able to get it back." So sorry, Anne!

    1. It was just ramblings anyway and doesn't really matter. I just woke with my Ipad in my bed and the post was gone. I am sure I deleted it in my sleep just like I have sent countless emails (all empty) while sleeping.

    2. Or maybe you dreamed that you had written it. That's happened to me before!

    3. No it was a post that posted yesterday and I remember reading it to answer a comment, but must have dozed off and just had wiggly fingers and a touchy Ipad.

    4. Anne, if this is the Snarkiness post, I can email it to you if you want to repost it, just give me your email address. I can see it in my RSS feed since it was published, even though you deleted it. It won't bring back the comments. They might still be in the Comments section of Blogger, but if there isn't the original post, you might not be able to republish them.

    5. Nathalie you can email it to me if you don't mind. haljam3@gmail.com . I don't give a flip about reposting it but would like to have it just for my personal archives

    6. I just sent it. You'll have to repost the video but the text is all there. If that happen again, you can use an RSS feed reader like Feedly (it's free) and subscribe to your own blog and then you can see all the posts that you published. So basically, everyone, beware... once it's published, it stays online in the RSS Feed readers, even if you delete it, for whatever reason. Always make sure you mean to publish something before pressing that button, ha.

  3. Don't we have strange dreams though. I have been sleeping badly this week (overtired I think) and on Tuesday night I dreamt I woke around 3 a.m. to find all these strange people digging a huge, swimming pool type hole in my garden. Well that's not such a strange dream given we have been digging up the garden, but when I asked these men what the hell they thought they were doing they refused to tell me "because of the Clinton files"! Good Lord, I was glad to realize it was a dream. Anna

    1. Hahahaha! I love this. I have a rather active imagination when I am awake and when I am asleep it goes into hyper drive. If I am reading a book when I fall asleep I "write" chapter after chapter of said book in my dreams. Then I wake wondering what was written vs. what I "wrote"

  4. That was going to be my suggestion as soon as I heard it had posted. Follow your own blog and all blog posts will be sent to you so that if your whole blog ever disappears, you can have it back. On some email programs, maybe gmail, you can have all the posts divided and sent to their own folder. I have done what you said and thought I lost a post, but it was there in posts. You must have hit two buttons in a row, the wrong buttons. It asks you if you really want to delete things. Repost for us, too.

    1. Linda, that's another good tip, thank you. I will do that for my blog. I had originally chosen blogger because one blogger had been able to make her blog into a book that way - and that is what I want to do for myself and for my boys later (not sure they'll read it though, but if they don't I'll come back and haunt them). Cheers. Anna

    2. Anna, if you wish to eventually create a book of your blog, I would highly suggest backing it up regularly. Blogger is great because it's free but it's had glitches in the past. I lost a whole year of posts in a previous blog out of the blue, and then in another one, suddenly 2 years of pictures aren't displaying even though the pictures are still in (then Picasa now) Google Pictures. It's VERY frustrating when it happens, especially if you use your blog as an online diary as I use mine. Instructions can be found here: https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/41387?hl=en

    3. Linda I imagine I was in crazy land between twilight sleep and deep sleep and managed to hit the right combinations of buttons without knowing it. I have sent numerous email to one of my best friends doing the same thing. The messages are usually something exciting like *jkjjkjklllllll,,,,,,,,,,,,p;;;;;;

    4. Nathalie, thank you so much for that tip as I really don't want to lose my blog AND I have, as suggested, already started "following myself" so I can save my posts elsewhere. Thanks a million. Anna

  5. Oh yes Nathalie I can still see it too (and had read it - about high school reunions). I didn't realize they stayed there - not too computer literate! Anna

    1. When they say that once you publish something online, it stays there forever (so beware!), they really mean it!

Anna, I've been reading your blog for several months but never commented. I've been meaning to but sometimes commenting on blogs is a little overwhelming (because I don't know how to be succinct, mostly, and then it becomes a commitment and I'm mostly lazy!), but I really enjoy your blog. My dad lives near Thônes, so not so far from you. I love hearing about your life, living in France and commuting to Geneva :) Now I'm gonna have to come commenting for good. You've been warned!

    2. Nathalie, what a small world - being linked thru Anne in Alabam! Thones is only about 20 minutes from here. My brother is coming over in 10 days time and I will be taking them from La Clusaz down to Annecy via Thones so I will try to get you a photo. And don't worry about "being succinct" - I can do that at work but goodness knows outside of work I have verbal diahhorea (sp?). Anna

  6. Control Z I believe will undo your last action. Not certain whether it would have helped this time. Glad you have your post back.

  10. Sounds like this has already been answered, but if it's a draft = Saved in your 'posts' and if it was deleted = pretty sure it's gone.

Hey y'all thanks for leaving a comment. They are much appreciated. I read them all and do my best to respond to them, except for trolls, spam, and AI. I delete those suckers forever.
