The only things I have done that is preparing for Christmas are so lame that I hate to even post them, though I did promise transparency when I began the Christmas countdown.
I found two old Christmas magazines and looked through them, marking some things I would like to try this year.
I found 2 Christmas candy recipes I want to try, possibly next week. One is called Aunt Billie's candy which seems to be almost a praline fudge.
The other is a Bolivian Christmas treat with just 4 ingredients. I will probably try it first since it is the simplest one.
Other than that I found a Christmas tree I would like to have, but I am a little leery of buying a tree without physically seeing it first, and pictures online can be deceiving.
And what of the holiday decoration strewn room, that is supposed to all be contained in the closet? I did head upstairs and worked a bit but I am still nowhere near finished.
My discard pile is growing, as I find more and more I can get rid of. I thought as you age you should become more sentimental about things, but I find I am just the opposite. Or maybe I am better about prioritizing my sentimentality.
Week over . . . on to this week. I hope I do better!
I will keep any ornament that my children made along with the Shiny Brite ornaments and boxes. I can get rid of the bare wood ornaments that intrigued me one year. What was I thinking?
ReplyDeleteAll of the child made ornaments are safely in a container of their own and will not be tossed, but other things are fair game. I simply have too many things, but I should make someone starting the holidays with nothing very happy.
DeleteHI Anne, I have found your blog at last. Christmas, I don't think I can go there yet, as much as I Iove Christmas. I am prioritising what I want to keep for sentimental reasons too. Pauline (Happy Retirees Kitchen)
ReplyDeleteMy aim is to have everything inside the house ready for Christmas by the first week in November. I won't have lights blazing, but I want it ready to enjoy. I do have a tendency to over do things and last year I missed having the house look festive.
DeleteThat sounds lovely Anne.
DeleteFingers crossed it happens.
DeleteYou are at least thinking about Christmas which is more than I have done. I am more sentimental about some things as I age, and much less about others.
ReplyDeleteI think I am just more specific about what I am sentimental about. For instance I have one of my dad's pipes that I cherish, and a potato flour canister Mom bought when I was a kid from an antique shop while on a trip to Pennsylvania.
DeleteI am interested in your candy recipes. If you make them, let us know how they turn out.
ReplyDeleteI will absolutely share them once I make them. I am out of pecans right now and need to restock my stash before I begin,
DeletePraline fudge? OMG that sounds amazing. If you make it, please share how it is and the recipe.
ReplyDeleteOf course I will share
DeleteGlad to hear that you worked on the Christmas for a bit. The Christmas candy sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteI am not necessarily glad I worked on it, but I will be glad once it is finished.
DeleteI am getting ready to clean out my master bedroom closet and paint it. I need to declutter the ornaments inside.
ReplyDeleteI probably should get rid of at least 1/3 of the things I own.
DeleteI was just saying to Kay yesterday. What if all I had was a Christmas tree? Wouldn't that be easier than the whole house? I could eliminate about 12 boxes out of the garage if I did not decorate for Holiday's. I might be at that point in my life.
ReplyDeleteI do love the decorations, but I am realizing I don't have to do it all and I don't have to keep everything.
DeleteLooking through magazines and finding recipes is an important step! I have found myself decorating less and less with each holiday, but, I've kept all the decorations! Really need to sort through them and declutter, moving forward.
ReplyDeleteI just need to assess each and every thing I have acquired and make decisions on what is important and what is no longer useful. All the no longers need to go.
DeleteI started a list of items I know I will be purchasing to give as Christmas gifts. And I started a blog post on ways to save on Christmas. I’ll add to it all year long and post it around Thanksgiving time.
ReplyDeleteI have begun my list and I am adding things to it as I find them. So far they are all just very simple little add ons, but I have thoughts on some larger gifts.
DeleteI'd say you are doing just fine. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
ReplyDeleteIf the Bolivian treat works out, let us know. I like the idea of a simple recipe!
If it does I will and if it doesn't I will let you know that also.
DeleteI bought an ugly wooden Christmas tree styled thing a couple of years ago. It's awful and I don't know what I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteDeciding to throw it out is my preparation for Christmas
