Yesterday I cooked the turkey carcass on low heat from the after meal clean-up, through the night, until noon today. What's for lunch? A big bowl of super rich turkey broth with pilot crackers. So good after all the overindulging yesterday. And the biggest payoff is 3 quarts of broth for the freezer.
Happy loosening the belt day!
Happy loosening the belt day!
Turkey soup is good to have after a day of indulgences. We have a pot in our refrigerator that a welcome sight.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure the broth negated the cookie, pie and cake though!
DeleteHooray for tasty use of left-overs. And clever use of things too many people discard.
ReplyDeleteI am a bone saver and make broth of any leftover bones.
DeleteI'm sure that is as the pilgrims (and many generations after) would have done.
ReplyDeleteAnd now you have a no cooking day :)
I do have a no cooking day or several no cooking days since the fridge is groaning with all the leftovers.
DeleteTurkey broth sounds good. I have chicken broth, in the freezer, myself. I'll be making some soup, later on.
ReplyDeleteIt was good and early next week I will make some turkey veggie soup. The rest will be frozen.
DeleteThat sounds really good. 😊
ReplyDeleteIt was good. In fact I had it twice yesterday, followed by pie and cake and cookies!
DeleteSo I had three pieces of pie yesterday....
ReplyDeleteDid I say anything about not eating leftover pie?
DeleteNo turkey carcass here. I bought Thanksgiving dinner in a big pan at Costco: turkey breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy, and the all-important stuffing. All I had to do was follow the instructions and put it in the oven. I'm sure your dinner was delicious. I was certainly satisfied with mine and we have leftovers.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
If it had just been TheHub and me I would have done the same.
ReplyDeleteI remember driving home to England one year just after Christmas (about 11 hour car journey plus 6 hour ferry), so I took the leftover turkey and made turkey/mayo sandwiches for everyone, plus a few leftover desert bits. The best turkey meal ever (and so much better than stopping on the motorway)!
ReplyDeleteI actually like leftover turkey and froze a ton of it (because I am the idiot who cooked a 16 pound bird for 5 people)
DeleteOff topic, but I thought of you when I was browsing Etsy. Someone sells keto treats for a pretty penny. You could make these probably:
ReplyDeleteLink doesn’t work, sorry. It’s called loving heart treats
ReplyDeleteThanks! I will look it up!
DeleteLoosen the belt day is SO appropriate! I love making turkey broth like this -- SO good and so useful.
