The I Am Sick of Cooking Week

These are the dinner meals I had planned for the week. I did not stick to the plan, and frankly, I don't care. We ate every night, some nights better than others and bought take out 3 times. We even talked about take out again Friday night, but decided we were both fine having a sandwich made at home. (Thank you Aldi for the ultra low carb bread. Even though it tastes like eating a sponge straight from the bag, it is surprisingly tasty either toasted or grilled). I love to cook but I am just tired of cooking. I know we could go out to eat now, since restaurants can operate at half capacity, but I am not ready to do that yet. So our dinners are getting a little bleaker and bleaker, and I really don't care.

This is what I had planned for the week:
1. BLT sandwiches, caulitato  salad
2. Greek chicken salad, pickled Brussels sprouts
3. Hamburgers, chips or not, coleslaw
4. Unknown package of chicken stuff take from the freezer over rice or caulifice, cucumber onion and tomato salad
5. Takeout from somewhere
6. Pork tenderloin, broccoli, something else (uninspired right now)
7. Keto meatless stuffed poblano peppers, salad

And this is what we really ate:
Monday: Monday we worked at Mom's most of the day. I got home just a few minutes before TheHub called to say he was headed home. I did not want to cook and knew I had a couple of small chicken breasts in the refrigerator. It was pretty easy to decide it was the perfect time for the Greek chicken salad.

Tuesday I would like to say that I had a busy day and just ran out of time, so I resorted to making a quick sandwich for dinner. The truth is that I did not want to cook. Tuesday morning I had cooked 4 pounds of bacon in the oven. I take it after it is cooked, put it on a baking sheet and pop it in the freezer. After the slices are frozen I put them in a ziplock bag in the freezer and we use them a slice or two at a time (nuking them in the microwave to reheat them). When the bag is nearly empty I do the oven thing again to refill it.  I had planned to use it for sandwiches over the weekend, but___.
BLT sandwiches, caulitato salad

Wednesday:  I still was not feeling the call of the kitchen. When TheHub phoned home to tell me he was on his way I may or may not have suggested if he wanted to eat he needed to grab something.  He is a smart man and called me from Publix to tell me to warm up a can of green beans.
Rotisserie chicken, green beans, sliced tomatoes (I sliced them because I wanted them)

Thursday:  Once again I did not want to cook. We decided to run out and grab something from Zoe's at about 5:45. When we got there it was closed up tighter than a tick. Hoover, a suburb right next to our suburb,  was under curfew at 7, but some of the other areas had a 6 o'clock curfew, so restaurants were shutting down early to give their workers time to get home before the earlier curfew.  We tried a couple of other places before we found one still open. BBQ joint to the rescue.
TheHub had leftover Chinese from his lunch the day before (bbq did not sound good to him) and I had takeout smoked wings and coleslaw.

Friday:Neither of us really wanted much for dinner, so I punted and fixed one of our favorite comfort meals.
Grilled cheese made either on regular bread or keto bread, pickle slices

Saturday: We worked in the yard then visited at a distance with neighbors .  We got home at about 8 which was another excuse to not cook.
Chick Fil A for the win.

Sunday:  After online church I straightened my closet, then hit the outdoors. I did a few things to the back yard. Then we decided to have something grilled. This is when I am most grateful for a stocked freezer.
Grilled  tuna steaks, potatoes or caulimash, greens with avocado dressing

Planned possibilities for this week:
1.Steak, mashed potatoes or caulimash, tossed salad
2 Hamburger with all the fixings
3. Big broccoli salad, rolls or Keto toast
4  White bbq chicken, “ fried” okra, coleslaw
5. Spaghetti or zoodles with meat sauce, tossed salad, garlic bread
6. Keto vegetarian stuffed  poblanos
7. Takeout

The only thing I can guarantee with total certainty is that there will be takeout! Everything else is weather or attitude dependent, mostly attitude!
Hope y'all have a great week, great meals and great attitude!

  1. You know it is okay to not feel like cooking for a while, give yourself a break and Mc Donalds!

  2. I am so bloody tired of cooking too, kind of had a week off there when I was bedridden. Now I can't eat out because it doesn't agree with my stomach so damn cooking again! But - rotisserie chicken and heated beans totally counts as a home cooked meal in my books :)

    1. I will be like the food channel Sandra Lee. It's almost homemade.

  3. I haven't been feeling like cooking either, lately. Last night I struggled through preparing a simple meatloaf, mashed potatoes and lettuce from our garden salad. The only part I enjoyed was picking the lettuce.
Today is going to be pasta with ground beef of some sort, easy enough, with another salad, and I told a kid I'd make him a Boston cream pie. Baking doesn't count as cooking in my book.

    1. Baking is a stress reliever for me, so no it does not count as cooking.

  4. I know what you mean about not feeling like cooking. I go thru that too. We had BLTs and Hamburgers on our menu last week too. BLT's are easy and refreshing. I need to decide what we are going to eat this week too.

  5. I am so glad that you cut yourself some slack.
    And hooray for the freezer.
I often cook MUCH more than I need and freeze the leftovers for lazy/can't be bothered nights.
Which is just as well. Himself doesn't like takeout - which we call take away OR eating in restaurants.

    1. We have spent so much time at Mom's cleaning out and organizing things for an estate sale that I just have no desire to cook and really no desire to eat (which is freaky rare for me)

  6. The important thing is, you both ate. Plus, take out qualifies as supporting the local economy, so you are doing your bit to keep things going. :)

    1. Yes that is what I am going to say. I am just putting money into a struggling economy!

  7. I never feel like cooking. What you describe is pretty much status quo for me. However, I know it's not for you and that's okay. Sometimes we are just tired. And you have a lot of reasons to feel that way.

    1. I am actually overwhelmed by our almost daily cleaning out at Mom's. Making dinner is the last thing I want to think about. Who knows one of these night might turn into a PBJ night.

  8. " I still was not feeling the call of the kitchen." Ha, I love that. I can usually hear the call when other things need my attention and I am looking for a means of escape. Puttering in the kitchen appeals to me more than other domestic household duties. When I was cooking for more than myself cooking WAS a chore some days, but now I am only looking after myself. If I want to eat, then I need to cook. And I love to eat.

    1. I do use the kitchen as an escape from jobs I hate, but I have not felt like cooking at all this past week.

  9. My meal ideas, just made yesterday, are already out the window. We added a take out, whihc was really tasty-they did a nice ob, and it was one of the resturants doing a lot of community good.

  10. Saturday, I mentioned Chic fil A, and we were off. The line wrapped double around the building even though people could go in. I had not had CFA since October! And, I have plenty of food just ready to be eaten as is (salads) or to reheat (leftovers). I just wanted CFA.

  11. Perhaps your cooking mojo came here for a bit, as I've done more this week than I have in a long time. But I'm pretty sure it is wearing off. Take care of yourself...that's what's needed most right now.

    1. After a full month (OK maybe two months) of food indulgence I made myself put on something that has no give. When I did it, I realized it was time (past time) to hop back on the keto train.

  13. My big cooking pet peeve right now is when I ask my lovely family what they would like on the menu each week. Because, everyone very much has their own preferences & if I make the menu up myself without input, it's a guarantee people won't be eating. So, getting help & input is useful. That said, they say the same recipe each week. Tacos, pizza & spaghetti with meatballs. I love tacos, but ... seriously, can we not expand our repertoire a bit? Driving me bananas.

    1. I get that. I hate doing the same thing over and over. I am really missing having people over for dinner and cooking for someone other than TheHub. (who has about the same 10 things her prefers and would eat them in a ten day rotation then start over.) When I have company I get to go out on a limb and try really interesting things.,

  14. As a sign of gratitude for how my son was saved from autism, I decided to reach out to those still suffering from this.
My son suffered autism in 2017 and it was really tough and heartbreaking for me because he was my all and the symptoms were terrible, he always had difficulty with communication , and he always complained of poor eye contact . We tried various therapies prescribed by our neurologist but none could cure him. I searched for a cure and I saw a testimony by someone who was cured and so many others with similar body problems, and he left the contact of the doctor who had the cure to autism . I never imagined autism has a natural cure not until I contacted him and he assured me my son will be fine. I got the herbal medication he recommended and my son used it and in one months time he was fully okay even up till this moment he is so full of life.autism has a cure and it is a herbal cure contact the doctor for more info on [drjamesherbalmix@gmail.com] on how to get the medication. Thanks for reading my story
