Product Review, Where Have You Been All My Life

I am really proud of TheHub because he played along with me during my February pantry challenge and did no recreational shopping for the entire month. Today he only worked a half a day and when he got home one of the first things he wanted to do was go somewhere__anywhere was fine with him as long as we ended our trek at Publix.

First we ran by his barber so he could get a haircut. We took my car this time since his is in the shop and he has a loaner car. I had taken my iPad to sit in the car and read while he got  his "do" in order. One of us forgot our mask, so one of us had to run hame to grab a mask while the other one of us got a haircut wearing a peach floral mask. Oddly, it is not the first time one of us has used that peach floral mask in an emergency, but we can both continue on with our plans because one of us has several masks in their backpack which they had left at home today.
Long story short, one of our heads looks very nice now and one of us did not get to read a single word.

After the haircut, we drove to UPS to return a modem to AT&T. Hell will freeze over before I do business with them again. Let's just say it took about 6 hours of phone calls to rectify their over billing before we cancelled the service at the lake place. They are lucky I am not a lawyer, because if I were I would file a class action suit so quickly it would make their collective heads spin. I just have 3 words about their practices. Bait and Switch

Next we drove to Publix. When TheHub walked in it was like the heavens had opened for him and I am pretty sure he heard the angels welcoming him home. It had been so long since he stopped in that he had to ask the cashier and the bagger their names. They had both started at the beginning of the month and he had never seen them before.

I do not do this very often, but Publix had a BOGO deal on a product I had never tried before and I was very excited to be able to shop regularly again. I had already purchased everything I needed for my February pantry challenge and finished it spending only 2 bucks over my 60 dollar budget. Although it is still February, TheHub and I went to Publix today with the knowledge that anything we bought would be part of our March food budget.

Bless him because every time he came up to our buggy (southern for cart) with an item I sort of dashed his joy by telling him we really didn't need whatever it was. Finally he bought what he wanted all along; a multi pack of individual packaged chips and chocolate covered peanuts. Meanwhile I knew fennel bulbs were on sale and there were a couple of other items I could use (need? no way) and the BOGO item I had seen advertised that was yelling at me to buy.

I am in no way affiliated with Publix nor Pickle de Gallo.  I bought it, actually 2 since there were part of the BOGO ad.  Oh my goodness. This stuff is delicious. Imagine a crispy crunchy, slightly acidic, dill salsa. I just had a taste of it, but I am pretty sure I will plan meals where I can use it. Right now I am imagining pieces of sliced salami topped with this. If you are so inclined and you see it grab it and give it a try. If you hate it, that's ok too, just send it to me!

  1. Oh I can just see you sucking the joy out of your husbands shop when he was so good about the challenge. I remember wearing these cute little lavender reading glasses while I was playing the piano at church and our Bishop who was this old stern lawyer had forgot his glasses and was trying to read a bulletin from the home office to the congregation, he was so flustered and good not see so I got up from the piano and gave him my reading glasses. The whole church was cracking up.

    1. I am sure the entire congregation was laughing. If I had been there I would have been too!

  2. I don't think my partner could go a week without recreational shopping. He really does love it that much.
Smiling at the emergency mask and the mask runs. I always have spares (though we don't need them here). He does not.

    1. I was honestly extremely impressed with him for staying onboard with my plan. Of course he has been working 14 hour days so that probably had something to do with it too.

    1. When we were sat UPS the woman at the other counter was returning a modem also and she too is done with AT&T. For such a giant corporation they have the absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered.

  4. I feel about fresh sauerkraut the way you do about your pickle de gallo LOL. I just love it and every winter vow to make my own but never have. I am feeling like going appliance shopping tomorrow since I've had both vaccines. I just want the clerk to wear a mask and not stand too closely to me. Since my stove died, I have decided to replace my 24 year old refrigerator too.

    1. I hope you have a great shopping trip. I have had both doses now, but I will still be very careful and particular about where I go.

  6. Belinda just posted about sandwiches and this stuff would be a great sandwich inclusion. My hubs only had his pre Superbowl rogue shop, or maybe that was still January, and was good all month. I can imagine what yours wanted in the cart.

    1. It is really good.
I have been going to the store once every two weeks, but I go in with a list, grab things in a flash and am out within 15 minutes. I think I can be a little less freaky now that I am two full weeks past the second covid shot, but I will still mask everywhere I go (which will be very few places) and still act like Young Dr. Kildare when I get back to the car. I keep my bottle of hand sanitizer in the driver's side car handle so I do not have to touch anything in the car until I have sanitized up to my elbows. Then I hold the bottle with a tissue and spray it with disinfectant before placing it back in the handle.

  8. I'm a Publix shopper too, I will definitely give it a try. The only shopping my husband ever does is to run in and grab our cases of water and kitty litter once every two weeks. If I ask him to grab two or three things he acts like I'm sending him on a mission to mars or something lol!

    1. For some reason TheHub loves going to the store on his way home from work. He and the produce guy have become great friends and swap stories all the time. It is a social/recreational thing for him where he can get a bite of chocolate and bananas.

  9. That's a new one to me and I can't decide if I would like it or not. Is it much different than dill pickle relish?

    1. It is like eating fresh cucumbers in a dill brine. It is not pickled like a traditional dill is. It does have a bit of hot pepper in it though. I found it a very pleasant heat, but I know you are not a huge fan of hot stuff.

    2. But the rest of my family loves the hot stuff. They might like it.

  11. I laughed at the images of your husband in the peach floral mask and at the doors of the grocery store. Did the angels sing?

Enjoy your new find. It sounds interesting. Take care, stay well.

  15. Too funny about the peach floral mask! After forgetting to take my mask one time (and using a sweater sleeve to tide me over - fortunately, I was only dropping off something at my friend's and didn't have to get out of the car), I keep a packet of disposable masks in the glove compartment of my car, so there's one available if ever I forget my fabric masks at home. I also carry some in my purse. You are wise to continue to wear masks, even after receiving both doses. Getting the vaccine doesn't mean we can let our guard down while there are so many others who are not yet vaccinated and virus variants are popping up.

As for the pickle, I like sweet relish and the occasional dill pickle. Although I enjoy salsa. Daughter and I are now making our way through a salsa with habaneros - spicy, but, so delicious!

  17. Just wondering who the "one of us forgot our mask" is. Let me guess .... ummm! As for the pickles, sorry but ew yuck I hate the stuff. My ex loved them too and to be fair I buy (bought) them for my kids, but just the smell of them turns my stomach. Each to his (her) own I guess!

    1. I thought I kept "one of us forgot our mask'" pretty well disguised.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to taste buds. Everyone out there has a different preference and it is all good.
