Tuesday4

Ann at Tuesday4 has brought us questions called Inquiring Minds Wanna Know.
Prepare to be astonished__not!

1. What gets your blood to boiling?
Being ignored or patronized by sales people who assume being a female means I am insignificant and don't know what I want.
Once I was buying a car. It was my car, not TheHubs so there was no reason for him to take a day off work to go car shopping with me. I had found what I wanted and the great negotiation began. I had a price I would pay and was not going to go a penny over it. What the salesman did not know was that I had the cash in my purse for a cash sale. We could not agree on a price when he said "Look little lady why don't I call your husband and talk to him. I told him I was not a little lady, the car was for me, and Hell would freeze over before I bought it from him.  Then I drove straight to another dealer in a different part of town, negotiated the trade-in and price of the car, paid and drove home in it. The only thing I regret is not driving up to the original dealership and waving at that asshat through the window.

2.What does a really good day look like for you?
If I wake up and have a couple of interrupted cups of coffee, it is a really good day
What makes you say, "That was a great day"?
I have pretty simple wants and needs so really great days can be anything from TheHub and I hanging around the house for the weekend to being in New York at a jazz club or play.

3. Are you continuing to grow mentally, spiritually, talent wise or are you  just marking time?
I try to grow and learn new things daily, but some days I seem to just mark time. Spiritual growth for me is just a byproduct of getting older. Talent wise? I am learning a different instrument (slowly but I am learning) and I try to draw several times a week. I am neither a talented nor talentless person, just someone who is trying.

4. Have you changed your hair style since high school?  Yep, not only style, but my hair has been every color that grows naturally on humans and has even briefly has been both purple, and pink. I actually would like to try blue hair some day, for a couple of days.
I have had hairstyles from long (mid back) straight parted down the middle hair, to a 2 inch pixie, and just about every style in between.  Currently I have what I call my covid hair.  It got longer during covid so I twisted it up and clipped it with a banana clip. It is easy to do and I kept doing it. It's cool, doesn't get in my face and honestly don't really care what it looks like.
Life is too short to look the same all the time anyway.

So join in and let me know something about you I don't already know.
Come on and jump in! The water is fine!

  1. You are absolutely correct--talking down to me because I am female is the worst mistake a man can make. I was going to get a new car, brand new. My husband was living two states away before we sold the house and I moved, too. I went to a dealer, found the car I wanted and wanted to drive it. I had three kids with me, all clean and cute, well-behaved. They were not nasty and eating or fighting. The guy told me it had rained and he did not want to get the car dirty. Then, he told me to get my husband to come in with me and we could drive it. Well, husband and I both were going to be in Memphis, so we bought a car there. When he was back in town with me, we all spiffied up and went back to the first dealer. I had husband go in and get him to come out. We all sat there while my husband told the man he bought me the car I wanted in Memphis because he would not let me drive the one I wanted from his dealership. He turned heel and rushed back inside.

Another time when I was single, I was going to buy a used car. None of the cars had prices, so had to talk with a salesman who refused to give me a price until I filled out papers! Then, when I insisted in sitting in one car, he tried to sell me by pointing out the mirror on the visor SO I COULD PUT ON MAKEUP AND CHECK MY HAIR. And, telling me how the frame or something would collapse, reducing the impact or something. I could only picture the motor in my lap. He refused to talk prices, so I drove a mile up the street and bought a car.

So, now I have to tell Tommy these things and have too much emotion to do the other questions.

    1. It gets irritating dealing with men sometimes. You would think anyone in sales would learn.

  2. 1. I actually sort of did this with my first solo car purchase. I wanted to test drive a deluxe model of a Toyota 4-Runner. But the salesman, we'll call him "Tom," steered me to the economy, blah, blah, better deal. I left, bought an Infinti. When I pulled into my driveway with it, I called the Toyota dealership, asked to speak to the manager, and let him know what I had done, and told him to tell Tom thanks. My biggest blood-boiler: Things or people which waste my precious time.
2.I hate to say it, but a good day for me looks like one where nobody asks me for ANYTHING, nobody needs ANYTHING, and I am left the hell alone, to do whatever I please, when I please.
    3. I like to think I am growing...I certainly hope I am. I'm certainly not the same person I was years ago, and don't think I will be years from now.
    4. I have pretty much the same style I had in h.s. I have long, straight hair. I've always hated getting my hair done, so I don't.

    1. Love that you told them to tell Tom thanks!
I would not like to have hair as long as it was when I was a teen, because it would get in my way now. Of course I would most likely just wear it up in a messy bun.

  3. I could say Amen to your blood boiling. In a professional sense, I hear the few men get listened too and education experts that have loads more knowledge and experience get waived aside to hear from men. In early childhood it's even worse - the men get groupies almost. I'm trying to be more in the moment. I'm finding a good walk to start the day followed by coffee is a day changer.

  4. For whatever reason, the hair color thing surprises me. Which, is funny, since I've never actually seen you, so no idea why I had something in mind. ;-)

    1. You probably had that grandmother image in mind, and I am quite grandmotherly looking, but occasionally I have funky hair!

  5. Aaaargh on that car salesman! The same thing happened to my DIL a couple of years ago; they left and went elsewhere. Thanks for the mention of Publix' turkey, but I meant ground turkey meat. Sorry for the confusion!

    1. Ah, For ground turkey I use Angelo's steak seasoning. I buy it at the restaurant in Florida

  6. I agree with you about 'those' salesmen. And I have always found that they were men.
I have had blue hair briefly. My hair was very dark (then) so it really didn't show until I stood in the sun when I had a blue halo. A BRIGHT blue halo.

    1. I think having a bright blue halo would be the bomb, especially if it were unexpected.

  7. Good for you on the car negotiations. I know my husband did that once with our son when he was getting his first new car. The salesman ran after them and they ended up getting a great deal. Yes, no interruptions until after your coffee! I agree on the spiritual growth as we age. That's a good attitude about your hair.

    1. My dad and a dealer once came to within 100 bucks on the price. Dad left and the guy called him a few days later telling him he was agreeable to the price. Dad told hime he had decided he did not want to do business with anyone who could not come to a decision the day they were dealing.

  8. Your car story reminds me of a time when my husband and I had moved to a new area and were talking to an insurance agent. I had done all of the research and asked all of the questions. However, the agent never looked at me and only responded to my husband as if he had asked a question. That agent did not get our business.

  9. I enjoyed your car story. I wonder what the guy would have done had you showed him the money as you drove away. I admire your ability to let loose and try new hair colors!

    1. Don't know what he would have done, but I remember his name and will never buy a car from him.

  10. In this day and age there is no reason for women to be treated as incompetent by anyone. that salesman must have been a dinosaur, lol. I'm glad you were able to get an alternative salesman and get the car you wanted.

  11. Ah, yes, being "profiled" - in my case, I've been stopped by the police, while driving in a relatively new car (not a luxury car by any means) in a mostly white neighborhood and asked if I was the owner of the car. No traffic violation or any other valid cause for being stopped, but, I know to pull to a side when the patrol car behind me turns the siren on and flashes its light. This was several years ago, back in the early 90s. And then, there are the times when I've gone into a higher end department store and been followed by store security. I could almost see their thoughts! "Keep an eye on this one, she doesn't belong!" :D

    1. This is not exactly the same type of profiling, but it is profiling nonetheless. When I was about 17 I stopped in a convenience store and bought a glass pint bottle of milk and one of those individual packs of Oreos . The clerk put it in a paper bag and I did come out of the store holding it by the bottle neck with the brown paper bag around it. There was a police car in the parking lot and I thought nothing about it, even though I noticed he pulled out behind me. I opened the milk bottle and took a big swig at a read light (the bag still around it) and he pulled me over immediately.. Of course I stopped and he ordered me out of the car. He did ask if he could search the car and I agreed to it. He grabbed the bag and pulled out the bottle and realized he had stopped me for having milk and cookies.

    2. Nope he searched the car, nothing but school books and homework was in it. I think he was mad that he stopped me. How did that look on his report I wonder?

  12. I agree the situation with the salesman would make my blood boil. I didn't run into that problem because I was single. But I did, more than once walk out of a showroom when the salesman refused to negotiate.
What makes my blood boil these days are the people who refuse to admit that Covid was and still is a serious issue. I hate seeing posts and tweets that link to misleading or just plain incorrect info to support their conspiracy theories.
A good day is when I get some things done but there is no need to rush. A great day is when I get to spend time with my grandson...can you tell I'm smitten?
I'm not sure I learn something every day but I am more curious and creative as I have the time to be so.
Actually my hair is very similar to high-school except it is all gray now. I've grown it out and wear it in a pony tail much of the time. In high-school I wore it loose. Like you I've had various styles through the years, from a buzz cut to an afro, and a few different colors, never red but purple for the last few working years. Freaked my boss, but then she decided she liked it.

    1. I have never buzzed my head, but the 2 inch pixie was pretty dang short. I loved it because it was literally a wash and wear cut.
I know you are nuts about your grandson like you are supposed to be!
I am tired of the covid deniers also, and have some in my extended family who don't understand why I have not participated in some larger indoor gatherings.

  13. This is an inspiring post, Anne. Waiting in the hospital for no ending even though I have an appointment really irritates me. It always excites me to learn something new daily..though sometimes I just want to kill time.

  16. I still have my Covid hair! When we weren't going places, Mrs KR started cutting my hair (and her own!). She does a pretty good job, and it's so much easier. One of the few good things to come out of Covid for us. And buying cars is weird for everyone. Alas.

    1. There were a couple of things about covid that were not horrible. Giving up on hair was one and learning that I could go places with out wearing makeup and the earth would still continue to spin on its axis.

  17. Oh my goodness...way to go on buying your own car. I'm not sure I'm that confident. I never got creative with hair color...just stuck with my natural..which I liked. I did add highlighs for awhile and now let it go to silver.

  18. Oh, you and I must both be on a Beatles brain wave this week. I woke up singing Oh bla di oh bla da, life goes on bra...la di da and life goes on...one morning this week and shared it on my post. Funny. I haven't listened to any Beatles music in ages. I enjoyed your answers, and the story about buying the car was hysterical!! I do wish you had driven it back to that first guy and showed him...I'm sure glad you didn't buy from him. LOL. And your hair story is interesting too. You are a very modern young woman! LOL. My hair was a natural red and then auburn as I got older and now at almost 72 it is kind of a mousy brownish auburn with gray streaks. I've never colored it except maybe put a little lemon juice in it to highlight it a bit. I did try highlighting it once at the beauty parlor, but paid a lot of money for something no one even noticed, so forget that! I've never been brave enough to do anything else. Oh, in high school I sprayed it silver for a play I was in. LOL. That's it. I guess I just never wanted to have to mess with the roots growing out. LOL. Have a wonderful day, and be sure to show us a picture when you get around to coloring it blue!.
