Hard and Fast Rules

We are mere days away from that time for those of us who were raised in the south to don our school colors, grab our shakers, and live every Saturday through the end of November either in a stadium or in front of our TV.

TheHub and Son2 are usually at the games, and I watch them with DIL2 sometimes, and sometimes just by myself. Unless there is a road game, and then TheHub and I watch the game together, with either a ball game meal or game day snacks.

I also confess that every Saturday morning for the next few months, I will begin my Saturday mornings watching/listening to ESPN's Game Day with Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Rece Davis, David Pollack and the newest member of the Game Day Team, Jess Sims.
And because enough is never enough I will flip stations to see/hear SEC Nation with Laura Rutledge, Paul Finebaum, Roman Harper, Jordan Rodgers and Tim Tebow.

This is just how we roll every year at this time.

Bama Football Rules

1. Don't Call Me at any Time On Saturday

2. If for some insane reason you decide to text me during a game, it better be to ask me "Did you just see that play?"
Unless you are my granddaughter, I do not give a flip what you think, or think you need to know during a ball game.

3. If someone is injured, call 911 before you call me. They will answer, I probably won't.

4.  If you are confused about my weekend availability until January refer to rule #1. Even if Bama is not in the playoffs, I will still be watching__unless it is a team I really dislike.

And I will now leave you with a big
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. There are a few outliers here who do not hold these same rituals. These are not my people, and I do not even begin to understand them. They probably make it a point to go places like Publix and Walmart while the games are on. Weirdos!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Glad you understood the tongue in cheek weirdos comment. I know not everyone enjoys sports. I had a husband and three sons. For me it was join the party or be left out, so I joined. Now I really like it.

  3. It's really fun to have a team to follow. I root for my undergraduate school, but not with the same fervor that you do. Football games last too long for me to sit still for that long, but I do try to see the band at half-time. There are certain traditions with the band that can make me emotional-in a good way. :)

    1. I am actually a Saturday only fan. I do not wear "team" clothes like a lot of folks do and except for during the game no one would ever know who I am for unless I told them. Except for my neighbors, and most years I have an Alabama wreath on the front door. Many neighbors have their teams displayed also.

    1. Youngest son graduated from Bama and daughter graduated from LSU so I do say Geaux Tigahs when LSU is playing any team except Alabama.

  9. I'm a huge sports fan, and many of these rules apply here (especially during curling season). Since following your blog I've made a point of trying to watch your Alabama team play when they show up on my sports channels. Fun to watch both the athletes and the fans.

  11. No football for me. Now, Tommy is of a different mind. Once, years ago, I went to Walmart deliberately because I knew that this football Saturday I could shop with few people about. Unfortunately, I heard screaming, shrieking, screams and it all burst at once and ripple across one end of the store. Thinking it was violence, a shooting or something scary, I froze. So did half the store until someone coming from that direction said the chaos was the result of football!

There was/is one store I will not go into on a Saturday because the football game is so loud a person cannot think.

    1. Long ago I would go to Parisian about an hour before game time of the Alabama/Auburn game because no one would be in the store. I could shop and still get home in time to watch the game.

  12. While I used to watch a lot of international rugby, even that went off the boil, so I guess you'd probably find me at Publix on Saturdays! Boring, I know, but think how quiet it would be!

    1. It really is not quiet. They have the game broadcasting over the stores speakers. Yes that is life in the south.

  13. I think the weirdos are those who can bear to watch football. I don't understand the appeal--it bores me to tears. Don't get me started on colleges which pay coaches more than professors. Here, a common strategy is to go to Costco when the home team is playing.

    1. I would have been surprised if you did like it. I know you like silence and it is anything but quiet. Costco on a game day is probably a great time to go to avoid crowds.

  16. Right there with you. We started last Saturday since it's football. Soon it will be football on Saturday and Sunday (and Monday night and Thursday night 😉) I don't really have a favorite college team, although I do follow the Big Ten the most living in Buckeye country and all.

  19. I like your cartoon about “it’s not domestic violence.” We once heard our neighbor yelling horrible things which we thought were directed at his wife. We were terrified but a few minutes later, we heard him say “We Won!” and we later heard it was a very close game decided in the last 90 seconds!
