Today's Tuesday 4 post is all about dining out. You can find it here.
(Since we are talking about food, this JB's funk classic with Maceo Parker on sax excites the appetite)
1 Do you like eating out with friends or would you rather have them over for a meal?
Honestly I like both. Pre-covid, I tried to have a small dinner party at least every other month. Post covid things have been a little different and we have not entertained as much, but we have had a lot of family members for dinner at different times.
Conversely, I love meeting people at restaurants.
2. Let's go out to eat. You pick. Where are we going ?
In a perfect world we would be going to Highland's Bar and Grill, but they have not yet recovered from Covid. My next choice would either be Bottega or Hot and Hot Fish Club. Since it is still the middle of summer and the tomatoes are perfect I guess we should go to Hot and Hot.
3. What are you going to order tonight?
The pre dinner beverage will be water and a dirty vodka martini.
Their tomato salad will be the start of the meal. (It is usually my meal in itself, but I am playing along)
I will follow it with either roasted snapper or grilled grouper.
4. Are you going to have dessert? What will it be?
Absolutely there will be a dessert__white chocolate bread pudding with whipped cream and raspberry coulis.
Come on and join in! Let me know what your choice would be!
Your choice of dessert sounds wonderful. I'm almost want to skip the rest of the meal and go directly to that!
ReplyDeleteIt is my favorite dessert there. The tomato salad is only a summertime offering and when we go I get only that, then we share the bread pudding.
DeleteI will have two of those desserts.
ReplyDeleteYum! Your meal sounds delicious! And that dessert sounds so so good. Raspberry and white chocolate, yum!
ReplyDeleteBefore covid, we liked to have family over for cookouts. Hopefully we can smoke a brisket soon as I have a hankering for bbq. My kitchen remodel is almost done so we need to celebrate. :)
I think I would pick Gaucho Grille which is the only Brazilian restaurant in our area now.
I would order provolera, I love me some melty cheese and grilled picanha steak with pork stew, rice and salad and flan for dessert.
That meals sounds great!
DeleteI'm going to pick J Selby's, but my cocktail will likely just be water. While a vegan restaurant, the good is so delicious. I'll go for a starter if buffalo cauliflower, and if I must, their version of a Count if Monte Cristo. No dessert because I'll be bringing 1/2 or more food home already. But, they serve a delicious carrot cake.
ReplyDeleteI have fairly simple tastes as far as drinks and food go. Water is my go to drink, and I like vegetarian entrees whether as a sandwich or a salad.
ReplyDeleteWater or iced tea is my go to drink, but if I am going to a white tablecloth restaurant, I am going to have a cocktail before dinner
DeleteI prefer going to a restaurant (no cooking or cleaning required). Nearly forty years ago I used to host gatherings in my home where I made pot-luck dinners...I made it in a pot, they were lucky to get it. But other than my brother and his family I don't usually have people over for meals. And those are rare occasions indeed, because SIL can generally think up a reason not to attend.
ReplyDeleteI'd likely choose a family restaurant, somewhere with a varied menu so everyone is likely to get something they want. I'd have a Caesar salad/wrap with chicken. Drink of choice would be water and maybe, a Blue Moon Belgian beer. (I'm boring I know). Dessert is not normally something I would have, though if there was lemon meringue pie I probably could be convinced.
Now this would be quite a different story on a cruise ship. I had a wonderful meal at Bistro Sur le Mer on the last cruise. Starters included goat cheese (shaped as olives), smoked salmon, my entree was a filet mignon with frites, and for dessert I had a vanilla custard with creme Anglais. I'm still salivating. :)
Once in a blue moon, I like a Blue Moon. I think there are some in the aux. fridge right now.
DeleteI like to go out to eat but we haven't done much at all since Covid started. We have been out to eat in Montana a few times. I like to get Salmon. Your dinner choice sounds good. I always like getting a dessert in a restaurant and sharing it with everyone.
ReplyDeleteIt is so long since I have been out to dinner or had people round for a meal I have forgotten how to play. And how wonderful it would be to have a meal that I don't have to prepare, or clean up afterwards. IF my dodgy tummy would allow it I think that a Turkish restaurant would be my first choice. With lots of dips, fresh turkish bread, and deliciousness.
ReplyDeleteThere are no Turkish restaurants here that I know of, but we have a couple we hit when we are in New York. So delicious!
DeleteWhite chocolate bread pudding? Just shoot me now (lol). From the sounds of it, I'd prefer having that as my first course. Eccentric? You betcha!
ReplyDeleteIt is so good! I can make it here, but it is dangerous to have it in the house. It's a special occasion dish.
DeleteCovid did a lot of damage to restaurants. For me whether its home or out I just love the excuse to be with people. Thank you so much for joining in.
ReplyDeleteI like being with others as well. It can be anywhere, from a tony restaurant to a dive and I will enjoy it
DeleteTotally off topic, but the music excited my cat! She's never reacted to music before, that I know of.
ReplyDeleteShe must be a Maceo Parker fan!
DeleteFor two years I had people over to my house for a potluck dinner once a month. This may seem like a tacky way to entertain, but folks were eager to come.
ReplyDeleteRemember, I lived in a small town with few fine dining opportunities or choices at all. So, Ruby Tuesday was always my choice.
I ate the same thing every time--chicken tenders, baked potato with sour cream and my favorite, the salad bar. I could never eat it all, so took half home and had it again the next day.
No dessert since I was full from half a meal.
Ruby Tuesday did have a good salad bar. I am not sure if there is even one left in town.
DeleteThe nearest Ruby Tuesday is in Oneonta. I looked.
DeleteI'm happy to eat out, be invited to someone's home to a meal, or have people over - pre-Covid, of course. These days, I will get take out and eat at home, alone. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have re-entered the restaurant world, but I will still only go to ones that are fairly empty, which means we generally do takeout or eat at off hours.
DeleteWe do enjoy meeting friends at restaurants, but much prefer dining at home. For one thing, so many restaurants are so noisy these days! And dinner parties are always more leisurely.
ReplyDeletelike having people over to eat because you can linger and have better conversations.
Deletethat dessert sounds fabulous. we don't have people over for dinner anymore. i think it's a leftover thing from covid days. well earlier covid days. and we don't eat out with others much either. i think we've forgotten how:)
ReplyDeleteIt is delicious. I actually bribed a line cook with a case of beer to get the recipe
DeleteBefore Covid we enjoyed eating out. These days it is a rare treat. I don’t think I will ever feel completely at ease like I did before Covid and that takes a little bit of the fun out of it for me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday.
ReplyDeleteI met a friend in Geneva for Thai food this week. It was heaven, all the more so since I rarely go out to eat now!
ReplyDeleteEven takeout Thai food is wonderful. Add a friend and conversation and it goes to a whole new level.
