Did I finish my list for yesterday, nope. I started cleaning out the designated cabinet in the kitchen and just kept cleaning. A charity truck will be here today so I kept cleaning out and filling bag after bag of things to give away.
I am feeling a little depressed about getting rid of one set of dishes. I really do like them but I never use them. The plates are oversized and do not fit in the dishwasher. I even took one of them with me when I went dishwasher shopping and no dice. They did not fit in a single washer. I was lucky enough to wash dishes from the time Mom let me stand in a chair to wash them until I was about 25 when we finally bought a house with one that worked. Our first house had one but it was broken and the repair guy could not fix it. At the time we could not afford to replace it, so I washed. I understand it is a luxury, but not one I am willing to do without, and I am no longer going to keep dishes that will not fit. (Besides, I have 8 other sets of dishes. They are my guilty pleasure and anytime I see a set I like on one of the facebook trading sites it is all I can do to keep from buying them)
The painters will be here early, I am sure, and in addition to painting one of the bathrooms upstairs, and doing touch up painting they are staining some open cabinets I have in the kitchen. Years ago we totally redid our kitchen using just two handymen. I loved it because we kind of designed the kitchen as we went along. The open cabinets were an afterthought that worked very well, but I did not want them stained the same color as the cabinet doors. I told them to leave them raw and I would figure out what I wanted later. Well later has come and tomorrow the raw wood shelves will be stained black on the interior, but the same color as the cabinets on the edges.
I have no idea what I will be doing since they are going to be in two different areas of the house. I might wind up in the laundry room because it is not in anyone's way. I guess this will be a day of some work and maybe some rest. Fingers crossed!
To do: Whatever I can, but I am not going to worry about it today.

Don't worry, be happy! Gift those dishes to someone who would appreciate them. 8-)
ReplyDeleteThey aer going as soon as the truck gets here. Quickly I hope!
DeleteGood attitude to have-don't stress at what you can't accomplish. I have a list a mile long and I will bite off one task at a time. Granted, I'm not hosting wedding guests.
ReplyDeleteThe wedding and guests have just made me do what I should have been doing all year. This is my third huge load to whatever charity truck is picking up on my street. I figure I will have one more load before everyone gets here.
DeleteI do not like any plate that does not fit in my dishwasher! If you are like me, you will just quit on the list or decide some things can be half done or done later. I had get together once a month for two years or more. Things stayed clean and I got a lot of things done that should have been done years before. It is good you are not in a tizzy about all this.
ReplyDeleteI will not quit the list yet. I hate to admit defeat especially since things are easily doable. Ok, not easily but doable nonetheless.
DeleteI've moved almost entirely to dishes and glasses (including wine glasses) that go in the dishwasher. I did bring back a small set of blue glasses from Italy (one of our only souvenirs)that unfortunately can't be put in the dishwasher but that is it! Perhaps you need a me day where you get to eat bonbons and cocktails? Instead of cleaning like a mad woman?
ReplyDeleteWe changed over to stemless wine glasses a few years ago, and even found a couple of stemless martini glasses, only because I use the dishwasher.
DeleteMy mother loved dishes. I swear she had 12 sets. I think I could love dishes also if I had the room. Have fun today, I still have a ways to go.
ReplyDeleteI am having to stay out of the painters way, so I am not doing the things upstairs that still need to be done, but I have the rest of the weekend to finish everything and still have few days to do some cooking and whatever I want to do.
DeleteWhen we moved I gave away our wedding china. A little sad, but in reality, I didn't like the pattern any more and we never used it. I'm glad I did because we don't have room for it here.
ReplyDeleteI still have my china and also my MIL's. I have never used hers, but I do use mine several times a year, so I will keep it for now. When we move down, who knows?
DeleteWe have a dinner service we never use. I would like to move it on. Himself will not agree.
ReplyDeleteAnd I remember the days when I was the dishwasher. Only too well.
It is kind of scary when we realize how little we use certain things, like never!
DeleteI have a dinner set with a delicate floral pattern. I later saw the same set in plain white and rather covet it. It's out of production now but I saw someone selling it on facebook for a very cheap price but at the time I could no more buy it than fly to the moon.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, all that is just to say I understand the guilty pleasure in china
It is a true addiction on my part.
DeleteI'm sure someone will love those dishes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be able to rest a bit while the painters are doing their work.
Hopefully someone will get them who needs them.
DeleteI have been seriously considering stemless wine glasses! I like the look, but the stem serves a purpose. Maybe I will since they seem much more versatile.
ReplyDeleteWe don't buy terribly expensive wines, so I am not worried about the heat from our hands distorting the wine. I do still have my crystal and we use if for the really good stuff, but for our everyday use the stemless are great.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing so well, Anne. I, too, have dishes I rarely/never use. I don't know why I am keeping them, because, obviously, I am doing fine without using them!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you I am not missing those plates! I am decluttering right and left and have already created a new Goodwill boxful of things I just never use that take up space.
