Like the White Rabbit, I am Late!

Today I am copying Bless at My Two Cents and creating a to do list. The wedding is the 18th, but people start arriving at my house the 14th. I have a ton to do between then and now. so I thought I would make a daily list of what I need to accomplish. Maybe putting it out there will keep me focused, since there will be some sort of universal accountability instead of my usual "well I will just do it tomorrow" attitude.

This is what I really, really do need to get done today.

Living Room
Check for and get rid of any errant spider webs
Gather random items that should not be in the living room and put them away
Clean the music book bin.
Get the hair dryer and blow the dust from the piano interior. Requires an additional set of hands, none available
Dust and polish the side tables
Dust chairs and vacuum upholstery
Shine piano, piano bench and wipe keys
Wash  floor vases
Wash windows
Wipe down woodwork
Dust mop floor
Damp mop floor  Decided to wait until I am ready to wax the floors (After dining room is cleaned)
Polish candelabra
Clean switch plates and outlets
Vacuum rug
Vacuum lamp shades

Foyer
Clean mirror
Dust picture frames
Dust and polish chest
Dust and polish bench
Wipe down woodwork
Wipe down front door
Wipe down interior door
Wash windows
Dust mop
Damp mop Waiting for another day
Vacuum rug
Clean switch plates and outlets
Dust chandelier and clean shades

Laundry room and pool bath
This area is in such chaos I am just going to list "do 10 things".  It is going to be a work in progress so any 10 things will be an improvement. Then every day this week I will do 10 more things. Maybe by the time they get here it will be passable (Notice I did not say perfect) Let's just say I did 10 very small things to improve the area. I am tired.

Black hole that is supposed to be a bed room but just gets junk put in it
Take soccer table apart and move downstairs for neighbor who is taking it off my hands (Requires another set of hands, none handy
Gather stuffed animals and move into Pip's room
Gather anything no longer used and get ready for a major Goodwill haul
Move blocks and Brio set to Pip's room
Bring Thanksgiving decorations from closet to dining room
Move baby bed (take apart and store for possible future grands)

And now I need to get off this silly computer and get my rear in gear so I can accomplish these goals for the day.

I am calling it quits, now it is time to make tomorrows list

  1. You got this Anne. I guess you will have a houseful with your other sons and relatives. I suppose that means more cooking, more groceries, more planning. I will send good thoughts-sorry I can't send energy and troops.

    1. Good thoughts are appreciated. And yes I am going to have a houseful which means more of everything, but first I have to do some seriously deep cleaning because every single space of the house will be available to everyone. I might possibly call in reinforcements for the final spit shine before they come.

    1. At the end of the wedding day, smoothly or not they will be married, which is all it is really about anyway. Cleaning? I have only myself to blame, but things will get done. As soon as I have the living room, foyer and dining room done they will be totally finished except for a quick dusting and vacuuming the day the first wave arrives. Besides playing the piano, there is no reason for us to be in there.

  3. Good luck. And yes, call in reinforcements.
I use my to do lists to whip myself with, and hope you don't.

  4. Oh, my! Anne, that is one long daily list! I do hope you'll get some help! In the meantime, I am sending you all the energy I can muster!

Thank you for mentioning my blog. :)

    1. Thanks, I could use some energy and a different knee!

  5. Well, that is quite a list but at least you can tell what you have done and what needs to be done. Your knee hurts? I have no extra knee or energy to send, just good thoughts. Leave a note for all spiders to lay low for a bit. A list for thanksgiving countdown is in the making for me.

Mopping the kitchen floor is the last thing I do and in nightgown or underwear just before I get dressed for company to come. I walk away, dare anyone to step on the wet floor, and go get dressed.

    1. I like to have everything done the day before (rarely happens though) and have snacks and drinks ready for them. The flights between Portland and here can be difficult with long layovers.

    2. I had a husband and three little children who never noticed a floor was wet, and they would track it up. Mopping the kitchen floor was often the only leftover duty before company.

  6. I don't think anyone will notice if you get the corners clean or not. Everyone will be enjoying each other's company rather than paying attention to whether or not there is dust in a few places. And if they do notice, ask your granddaughter to do something cute for distraction or have someone play the piano and sing. With that being said, I would probably be preparing until I collapse and vow never again to do it that way.

    1. My oldest son's MIL is coming and staying with us. I adore her and am glad she will be here, but I do want the first impression to be favorable. The upstairs is incredibly dusty and unloved. Probably because we never go up there. I meant to start in September but we had the issues with Mom and her surgery and a gozillion drs. appointments. Not sure why I did not do more in October though, even though there were still several appointments.

  7. I don't even think about getting the small stuff done - the only person that notices is you. The big, important stuff yep but the small stuff - forget it, you are making a rod for your own back. I don't think I have ever wiped down an interior door (ha - there's a lot I've never done)- just spray orange on the cobwebs and call it Thanksgiving decorations!

  8. Look at all those things you crossed off! I am seriously impressed!
