I woke this morning, and did I remember it was Friday? Nope! I have been in Thursday mode all day. So after Alexa told me what day of the week it is, I hurriedly tried to get this post for my daily joys up and going. This is cutting it pre4tty darn close. So here is the recap of my joys for the 40th week of 2021.
Friday: Son2 stopped by the house mid-day after an orientation meeting for a new position he took. I enjoyed seeing him, and he enjoyed eating my keto "ice cream" bars.
TheHub came home from work early and I was able to go take a shower and freshen up before our houseguests arrived.
His sister drove in from the Atlanta area, and our niece and great nephew came from the Alabama coast. Son2 and Dil2 drove over to join us and we just sat and talked until fairly late. It was wonderful seeing them.
Saturday: We got up and made a quick breakfast for everyone, then TheHub and I ran a couple of errands before they all got ready to head out to the ballgame. Son2 and DIL2 went to the game with them. I am glad DIL2 got to go to the game, but I missed my game day buddy!
While they were gone I tidied the house, watched the game, (Bama won, Roll tide!) then got the dining room table set for dinner. I ordered it when they were about 30 minutes out so they could pick it up on the way to the house.
Since it is October I could officially use the skull dishes, and J.P. my great nephew really did like them. (Nine year old guys are so easy to please. Bones, candles and a squeaky chair that segued into toilet humor was about all it took!)
We had a long, leisurely dinner with a lot of laughs, then moved into the den to watch the remaining half of the Auburn game
Sunday: I was able to still enjoy the visitors before they left about mid-day. J.P. may be one of the sweetest kids I have ever met!
Monday: The day would have been extremely boring if I had not had a nice conversation with Sluggy!
Tuesday: I had a rather self indulgent day and did little to nothing that would be considered important. I did talk with my beloved cousin, who was and still is my very first best friend! Probably one of the greatest joys in my life is having my sister and my cousin being such a large part of my life.
Wednesday: We got a tad over 10 inches of rain in just 3 hours. My extreme joy was that we not only kept power throughout the entire thing, but that our house was not impacted by the severe flooding that happened all around us.
Thursday: The most beautiful day followed the torrential rains of the night before. Yes the ground was soaked and there were limbs and debris around, but everything was fresh smelling.
TheHub and I drove to our sunset viewing spot to see some of the most breathtaking colors as the sun disappeared and left behind a magical orange sky.
So go into week 41 seeking your joys. They are out there if we just look.
The day after the rain, I commented to Tommy how fresh and clean the trees and grasses looked.
ReplyDeleteThe air just smelled so good afterward. Of course I was able to just enjoy it and did not have to shovel mud out of my basement like some friends of mine.
DeleteI love the scent of rain washed air.
ReplyDeleteAnd am struggling with what day it is myself.
It is our Saturday.
Love your joys (and envy you some of them).
I woke this morning (Saturday) convinced it was Friday. I need to hit some mental reset button!
DeleteGreat week with some lovely joys! I wondered if you were OK when I heard about the rain and flooding on the news. Glad to hear that you were not impacted. :)
ReplyDeleteWe were fine but others we know were not so lucky!
DeleteI, too, wondered about you when I saw the bad flooding in Birmingham. Glad you weren't affected. How is the rest of the town doing now that the waters have receded?
ReplyDeleteThe rain stalled over just one part of town and it did a number on it. When you drive around our area you see a lot of things sitting in driveways drying out. Most homes here have basements with garage doors in them and a lot of them did not fare so well.
DeleteIt’s always so fresh and clean after the rain, which is a blessing in itself.
ReplyDeleteIt I, but it is easy for me to say since I had no water damage.
DeleteIt sounds like a lovely week. The skull dishes sound like an October treat.
ReplyDeleteI do love the skull dishes! They were a Facebook marketplace find and impulse buy a couple of years ago. I really do no regret buying them!
DeleteI don't think it's just 9 year old boys who would be delighted by skull and crossbones dining (and toilet humour). You could probably count me in too!
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha spoken like a mother of sons! I get it!
DeleteAhhh, college football in Alabama. Love it! The one and only game we attended, both of us were blown away by the students' enthusiasm (v. NFL). Do you ever accompany them?
ReplyDeleteSelf-indulgent days are the best!
We have 2 season tickets and Son2 loves being there much more than I do, so he uses my ticket
DeleteInteresting, your comment about rain. My brother is an agronomist. He says we're getting the same amount of rain where we live, but that it's coming all at once in these downpours that are followed by weeks of no rain.
ReplyDeleteWe have been hit with some deluges, but we have had the wettest summer I can remember. Normally August-October are very dry months.
DeleteI feel for your neighbours! A serious downpour can do so much damage.
ReplyDeleteIt's sounds like a good week, just past. I can see you are really enjoying the freedom to socialise :)
I enjoyed having family here, especially knowing everyone was vaxed and a few have even had a booster.
DeleteAh, toilet humour, that's definitely a boy thing. Right now for Eli, it's fart noises. :p
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week, and it was good the rain held off until after your company left.
