Annie @Tuesday 4 asks four thematic questions each Tuesday. When I actually remember it is Tuesday, I try and answer them. This week's theme is :Where would you go? Where do you want to go?
1. Is the farm for you? How about a ranch, a village or a city? Which is your choice and why?
Right now I live in the suburbs, though I could easily live in a very urban setting. If we had the money I would keep my home here, and have apartments in New York and in Portland, Oregon. I have 3 sons, one lives in town, one in NYC and the other in Portland. I would love to have housing in all three places so I could visit whenever the mood struck me. Unfortunately I am not a gozillionaire!
2. A short auto trip for the weekend with friends or a long vacation? Where would you go?
See the above answer. We no longer go on vacations, but we go see our kids
3. The quiet life at home with a cuppa and TV or a good book or a night out with friends? Which sounds good today?
Today our state's covid numbers are sky high so I had much rather stay home, watch Billions with TheHub and then read. In normal times I had rather go out with friends.
4. You have a choice of dinner and a movie or a game of cards and snacks at the neighbors. Where are you going tonight?
I am not sure if my neighbors play cards or not, but I have some wonderful neighbors and would much rather spend time with them than go to a movie.
So come on and join in the fun! Let us know what your choices are!
1) Farm. NOT suburbia. I am fairly introverted. If I was alone, I *could* see myself living in a small house with a small lot, within walking distance to the beach.
ReplyDelete2)NEVER an auto trip. And, I'm pretty happy where I am, so no long vacation either, unless it was by myself, strolling through London.
3)Home.
4)I like my next door neighbor, so I wouldn't mind going over there to play cards. I despise going to the movies--can't stand rooms with no windows, and the restaurants around here always leave me annoyed I left the house in the first place.
We may wind up eventually on the coast, but who knows?
Delete1. City. I love living in Istanbul but, would prefer NYC. Lol! 2. A long road trip by myself like the one I had between upstate NY to Florida and back. May be in New England this time. 3. Home, coffee and book. 4. Pre-COVID; dinner and movie, right now home alone is fine.
ReplyDeleteI love NYC too. If not for that silly money issue I would have a place there!
DeleteI think I would like a village life. Although a farm would have been my choice when I was younger, but too much work now taking care of all the animals. A city would be fun to visit but would stress me out too much to live there, cue Grinch, noise, noise, noise.
ReplyDeleteAn auto trip would be fun for a weekend in the Smokies in a cute little cabin.
The quiet life at home by the fireplace with a book. Hubby would probably be playing video games.
Dinner and a movie in the days before covid.
Covid has changed everything, hasn't it. Pre-covid I would never have answered that I wanted to stay home when I could go somewhere.
DeleteThe Smokies have some cute cabins and incredible views.
Farm - certainly a rural environment. I am not comfortable with car trips but would love to go back to Antarctica if health, finances or the plague allowed it. Definitely home. Can I pike on both options and stay home (again) with a book?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely about the staying home with a book. Often a book is the best company anyway!
DeleteMy dream is to live within walking distance to the ocean. Sadly, that dream that was once a possibilty seems too far out of reach. I currently live in a suburb of a small city, but a smaller community would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a longer vacation - in the vicinity of a ocean is preferred.
Home is where my heart is - though I do enjoy a rare evening out with friends once in awhile.
Last, neither appeals to me. I don't know many of my neighbours well, just enough to wave at them as they drive by. I'm not a huge movie fan (short attention span) so if I'm watching one, I like to do it from home where I can pause the television and do something else. I do appreciate a dinner I don't have to cook though. :)
A short jaunt from the ocean would be great!
DeleteI would love to live in the country, but live on the edge of town, which does allow me chickens and I get to enjoy the neighbor's cows. I love a long vacation. I love a night out with friends but that is put aside right now with the crap going around. Oh, definitely snacks with neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us have put things on hold! TheHub and I were talking about a long vacation but he is still working so that is not going to happen anytime soon.
DeleteI used to think I'd like to live on a farm, but, now I know I'd never be able to do any of the work involved! So, the suburbs or the city for me! Everything else will be stay at home! Especially now! :D
ReplyDeleteYep, stay at home is the catch phrase for now!
DeleteI have never thought I would enjoy a farm. I think they are beautiful but that life is not for me.
Having a place where I could have chickens and a border collie is enough for me. Maybe I could have bees, too. I cannot work a farm at all.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer to visit my children in NYC and in southern Texas. But, one long vacation I would like would be to visit Stonehenge when people can go right up to and walk among the stones.
Right now, at home with a book suits me. Formerly (before covid) going out would be my choice.
A night with neighbors with games or cards is my choice.
Maybe you could plan a visit with your children soon!
DeleteI have visited Stonehenge and was surprised at how different it was from what I expected.
These questions seem to have two answers-precovid and now. It will be interesting to see what habits have permanently changed when we can move freely again.
ReplyDeleteI think our new normal (once the smoke clears) might be very different for a lot of us. I imagine I will be intentional about doing some of the things I have missed, but also think I will be more selective about where I go.
DeleteI want to live in the city close to stores and I’d like a stay at a hotel with a swimming pool and I’d swim the whole time. I like to be a homebody these days but do like going out too, so movie and dinner would be great. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like city conveniences also! I do miss going out!
DeleteAs four question 4, we were about to get a card club going again when Covid pushed us all at home. I love the poker nights with my sisters, so if I could recruit neighbors to play cards, I would. Who knows where my middle and youngest would end up, but I'd lie to travel, and be able to pay to have our kids join us at least every other year, plus come home to us.
ReplyDeleteWe are planning a big family trip in a couple of years, but getting everyone together (at least for our tribe) requires tons of planning and a really good trip.
DeleteI'm a city girl born & bred. I grew up by the ocean, so anywhere near the water (preferably ocean) is my happy place. I do live in the great lakes state, but it's just not the same as smelling the salty ocean air and hearing the waves break on the surf.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely want to go out. I've always been a social butterfly, but I can easily curl up with a good book (I'm an avid reader) and glass of wine at home too.
Pre-covid I would have selected going out any time. Now, not so much!
DeleteI think liking where you live is the crucial thing.
ReplyDeleteCity dweller here (well, inner ring suburb, but I can walk to urban places). In my youth I fantasized about homesteading. Now, I marvel at my former self and wonder what I was thinking!
ReplyDeleteWe had a brief moment in our younger lives when we thought we should chuck it all and buy a small place to be at one with nature, and raise crops, and have animals, and a pond. And then we thought of all the work, and continue to live quite easily in suburbia.
DeleteIt really would be so lovely to have a home in several places we like and have family near by. As an alternative to owning, I always find it nice to stay in an Air B & B rather than a hotel so one can relax and feel at home.
ReplyDeleteWe have stayed at an Air b&b before and found it was perfect for our needs.
DeleteThat would be nice. It's hard when our kids live far away. Staying home is definitely the safest thing to do. We have lived in our house for over 15 years and don't really know any of the neighbors except for waving hello to them. Isn't that sad. Seems as though everyone is gone everyday working.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a country girl. I live on a rural property that used to be a working farm. Now when someone asks me if I live on a farm I respond that I live in the country. Nature and its seasons offer comfort and inspiration. That said, country living poses its challenges and it gets a little more challenging as I age. I do love what an urban center has to offer but wouldn't trade it for country living at this point. I've been to a few places in the world (Britain, Australia, Portugal, western USA, Costa Rica, Mexican & Jamaican resorts). I've come to learn that there are many places in the world but I'm not convinced that there are better places than where I live right now. I know that I'm ok away from home for ~2 wks before I'm longing for home. My next big vacation will be a St Lawrence river cruise and a look at Canada's capital. A weekend away often serves to revitalize. There are so many things to see close to home. I enjoy being a tourist in my own back yard. Quiet time at home serves me far more than nights out although I really enjoy home cooked dinners with friends and game nights. I agree with Live & Learn, there's the reality of the pandemic response that has created a dialed down social life.

ReplyDeleteI have a small house in an extremely small town, convenient for work, but in middle of nowhere in south central part of state, and then my very small college town/retirement/ weekend house in an older neighborhood. You would know exactly where I am talking about and convenient to University, DCH, and Target, my fav store…. Lol. When I finally do retire I am gonna sell the work house ( at least I hope it sells.) One son lives in college town, one son lives in state capital city , temporarily, and one is in North Alabama, where I am originally from. All within fairly easy driving distance. Daughter is 2000 miles out west and I cannot afford a house out there but luckily she has a semi apt in her basement so I can stay there when I visit grandchild. I fell like I have to hitch a ride on a wagon train to get to her bc no direct flights… lol. Not really, but it is an exhausting trip. Cindy in the South
