Since we ate out nearly every night while traveling last week there was no following a menu plan so there is no reason to list what we had. It was anywhere from really good food to just plain fodder. We ate, we shared meals and conversation with family, rinse and repeat.
Once home we ate simple meals like cheese and crackers, canned soup, or mac and cheese.
This week we need to be more conscious of what and how we eat, since we may have overindulged both with meals and spending. I plan on using what I have on hand only buying a bit of produce. Don't think for a minute this will be a hardship. My freezer and pantry runneth over.
I'm sure that food was not the most important thing of last week, nor will it be next week with your guests. But in Anne style, it will all be good.
ReplyDeleteThe meals we ate together were not about the food at akll, but about the company and conversations.
DeleteI could have sworn I commented on your last post but it's not there. I wanted to know what Pip baked for you? So glad you got to spend time with her.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you mention "just plain fodder". Plain fodder is good enough for most days if the company is good :)
She had a copycat Starbucks lemon loaf for us to enjoy.
DeleteIt's definitely been plain fodder around here since I returned from my trip. Thankfully, my son isn't fussy and as long as I'm cooking, he's happy. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are always good with plain fodder, but sometimes it is plainer than we might like.
DeleteYour meal plan sounds wonderful! You are not the only one who might have overindulged in eating and spending, recently! Since my daughter came home for a visit which got extended by an additional two weeks, we've been indulging in special meals and treats from our favorite restaurants and bakeries (all brought home to be eaten as I am still not eating in restaurants). Once she leaves, tomorrow, I will concentrate on finishing up leftovers and then, eating from the freezer and pantry!
ReplyDeleteI hope we both get back on the wagon! My hope is in spite of having company I can keep my spending to virtually nothing.
DeleteLove the meal plan this week! Grilled tuna steak and chicken sound absolutely delicious.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of tuna steaks in the freezer and they are so easy to throw on the grill. It will be a good and easy ncompany meal
DeleteAfter my gastro problems when I was not stuffing myself, I lost 15 pounds. However, I have overeaten and indulged in things I should have left along....still 15 pound loss. Plain fodder is good enough most days. It makes the back-to-cooking fare seem wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe generally have pretty decent meals, but sometimes simple meals are the best. We just do not repeat the same things very often.
DeleteYour meal plan sounds delicious. This month, I plan to only spend on produce and dairy. We have all we need otherwise. I love trips but getting home to more 'normal' meals is always a treat. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThis week is definitely subject to change based on the whims of the houseguests.
DeleteWe too ate a lot of food at the only Easter gathering we went to this year. I do have a new Rueben dip to try this week. I'm happy to have leftovers today, so I can have time to bake us a breakfast casserole. We enjoyed the grill last week, but this week looks like rain, snow and possibly a grill out day on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteRueben dip sounds very good. I think this is going to be a pretty decent grilling week here. We are supposed to have some cooler temps, but even so it is not supposed to be cold.
ReplyDeleteYum, that all sounds good, Anne. Eating out while on a trip can be fun and it's nice to be able to let go for a small time and then get back on track once you get home again. We are planning a trip to Atlanta in May and plan on doing that same thing.
ReplyDeleteI will not worry about eating out while we are traveling, but once home I can make up some of the expenses just by using what is here in already purchased inventory.
