It's Fall__Somewhere Else

On Tuesdays Annie at Tuesday 4 poses some questions. They are simple enough to answer relatively quickly, but sometimes do require a little mental processing before actually committing to an answer. And some of them__well, I never would have a thought about at all prior to reading the question.

1. Fall is usually the time that new series appear on TV. If you could make a show that you would really enjoy what kind and what subject would you like to see
I prefer shows that have a really fine ensemble cast that is centered around the whole vs. a "star". I also like tight writing with believable dialogue. It could be a comedy or drama, either would work. Right now my favorite show is "What We Do in the Shadows" on Hulu. It is funny, well written  and over the top, but it still works.

2.  You have a rare opportunity this fall: you can step into a movie, TV program or book and live out a week there, which would it be and why?
My favorite book of all time is "A Confederacy of Dunces" so I imagine I would wander into New Orleans in the early 60's. I have read the book so many times and have such vivid mental images of the characters that I would love to be an outlier just observing them. I have been to New Orleans often and seen it change over the years. It would be great to see it in a simpler decade.

3. Are you decorating outside for autumn? What are you doing? Is it HGTV worthy?
Other than buying a few pots of mums I do absolutely no decorating until a couple of days before Halloween (My Halloween decorations are not HGTV worthy but they are still really good) and they come down by 10 o'clock Halloween night. During the first week of November I put a couple of Thanksgiving(ish) decorations out, again not HGTV worthy.

4. What's on TV this week you really are going to enjoy?
We watch one episode of The Americans on Amazon Prime each night. Right now we are on season 3 of 6. When we finish that we will find another episodic show on either Netflix or Amazon to begin. But ask me this same question when "Succession" and"The Righteous Gemstones" air their new seasons and I will have a completely different answer.

  1. I'd have a difficult time answering all but one of those questions. I don't tend to watch the new series - usually I wait until they're established before I start watching. And the number of them are simply overwhelming. As an example, I've only started watching in the past year NCIS with all of it's various iterations. As for being in a show, perhaps NCIS New Orleans - I've only been there once but loved it!

However, I do decorate for every season, but I'll never win any prizes. Everything I put out is something I love and that's what matters.

    Take care and stay well!

    1. I have a love /hate relationship with New Orleans. I love it in the spring (early spring) and fall (late fall) , hate it in the summer and the winter depends. Nothing sucks as much as New Orleans on a rainy winter day, but a sunny winter day there is sheer bliss

  2. One more question for you - where's he taking you for your birthday? Happy birthday Anne!

    1. Thank you! The questions took some thought, except for the book and I have reread it just about every year since it was published.

  4. Ooh-new book recommendation for me. I'll check it out. We have revered back to summer this week after the fake fall last week. I am not a HGTV decorator-don't get the over the top for every season when nature is what I like to see. Our anniversary is October 10th and my SIL's and BIL's is August 25th. My MIL likes to give us both the same gift, usually fall decor like a outdoor sign, cadles, or something pumpkinny or leafy.

    1. I do not do a lot of decorating for anything except Christmas. I can do and have done Christmas over the top. If it is a year with just TheHub and me, I stick lights on the trees, bows on the tops and call them art trees.

  5. I LOVED Confederacy of Dunces. Thank you for the reminder it is way too long since I have reread it. And I still ache that the author never knew how successful it was. How deservedly successful.

    1. I read it or snippets from it all the time. I borrowed a copy from a friend right after it was published and knew I had to have my own, but I wanted a first edition. I waited for years for my local bookstore to find me an LSU press copy ( 2nd printing not the first__bummer!) . I have 3 other copies that I loan to friends though. I cringe every time someone says they are going to make a movie, because I would hate to see it made by someone who does not appreciate the nuances of the characters. If I taught high school English I would have my students read it because I think it is some of the best character development I have ever read.

  6. Happy birthday, Anne! Wish you good health, much joy, and all the best, today and every day.

I enjoyed reading your answers to the questions. It's not Fall yet, here, either! Today's high is supposed to be 95F.

    1. Thank you so much Bless. With the hurricane in the Gulf I am pretty sure we will get a fake fall for a few days.

  7. I love to read but more contemporary lit. I tried to read Confederacy of Dunes twice but just not my cup of tea. Right now I'm rereading Grave digger Daughter's by Joyce Carol Oates- it's dark. As for TV, I like medical shows- my favorite of all time is ER. I think I've seen it 4 times. I love the Resident and Good Doctor now- no new seasons I am sure for awhile but that's OK. I cut the cord- I just pay for Hulu without commercials and it's great. TV bill is $12. Gotta love that.

  8. This is unAmerican, but I haven't turned on my TV in a couple of years. Seriously. I still see clips of stuff, mainly on YouTube. But an actual TV program? Nope. I'm weird, but I'll bet you already knew that! :-)

    1. Nothing is better for the world than a little weirdness, except maybe weirdness with great cocktails!

  9. 1) I will never, ever write a screen play, or script, or produce a program ever again. That said, I'd love to see a historically ACCURATE dramatic portrayal of Henry VIII's reign, with each episode followed by a real life walk through the actual sites shown. 2)I'd like to be Professor McGonagall's TA in the "Harry Potter" series. 3)I don't think much of anything I do is HGTV worthy, but I do have two crates with fall picks and pumpkins set up on my porch. I also put some scarecrow picks along the edge of the front flower bed. No trick or treaters in my neck of the woods--too rural, so no Halloween decorations outside, but I do have a cute "Here for the boos" ghost inside on my antique drinks bar. 3) I haven't enjoyed t.v. for a long time. My h.s. sophomore is taking World History, though, and just listened to a lecture on the Black Plague, so I may talk him into watching the BBC documentary of the plague in England with me.
Hoping Sally isn't too much of a bitch to you. Oh, how my heart breaks for my beloved Panhandle...

    1. It looks like Sally is going to skirt us and just rain a bit. I have relatives on the coast who are all fine but all have damage of some sort. It looks like Gulf Shores took the worst hit. TheHub and I are going to Panama City in late October and it should be ok by then. I have been watching a live webcam on 30-A and the water is quite high.

  10. You will have to show us your Halloween decorations! I heard that The Americans was really good. We haven't watched it. We have watched The Righteous Gemstones and I watch Succession which I love. Thank you for stopping over. Nice to meet you.
