Songs for the Seasons.

I have linked to the Tuesday 4 questions provided here by Anne (yes there are more than one of us!) It is fun to play along.

I am beginning this post with Vivaldi's  "Four Seasons" autumn, but have included winter (my personal favorite) spring and summer below

1.Can you name songs that remind  you of autumn , spring, winter or summer? Vivaldi’s Four Seasons for all the seasons.
Specific songs are:
Fall: "Autumn in New York" especially the Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong cover
Winter:"River" by Joni Mitchell
Spring: "Where the Boys Are" by Connie Francis (The movie would play on tv every year during spring break)
Summer: "Hot Fun in the Summertime" by Sly and the Family Stone

2.Do you like background music when eating or shopping?
I do like it most of the time. TheHub and I were shopping during Christmas and the particular store was blaring rap. It was so loud we could not even hear ourselves talk, so we left the store.
Do you play background music at home?
I listen to music every day and we listen to music every night during dinner generally jazz. TheHub has a few favorites and we seem to listen to Thelonious Monk more than any other particular person while we are eating.

3.Christmas music begins playing some places as early as November just before Thanksgiving. Do you have a favorite Christmas song?
I love the German carol “Still, Still, Still.

4. Songs bring back memories. Would you share a song that triggers memories, good or bad, for you?

Good memory__The guy who lived next door to my college boyfriend was a DJ at an oldies station while he was attending school. He aired late night and would often play songs he would dedicate to us.  "Stand By Me" was one he played occasionally.

  3. 1) Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" indeed for all seasons. I also get in a winter mood when I hear Jethro Tull's "Solstice Bells." Growing up, my neighbor friends and I kept ourselves entertained for the
whole summer with a Beatles songbook, so all
Beatles songs remind me of summer.
2)I don't mind some background music while shopping
If I like the music I linger. .if not, I leave. I was at a tasting room with Led Zeppelin playing recently...I stayed an extra hour. As for home, no music without headphones other than the instrument you play or your own voice. I hate noise in my house. I love music elsewhere, love to hear my kids play and sing, but hate background noise in my home. I cannot bear to have music on in the car either. To me, listening to music is its own, sacred activity.
3)"In Dulci Jubilo," and Jethro Tull's"Birthday Card at Christmas." (The latter is from a highly underrated Christmas album--give it a serious listen. I find it very moving.)
    4) Oh, far too many to pick just one...perhaps "Carry that Weight" by the Beatles. It was the one song in the aforementioned songbook we didn't recognize, so we made up our own silly tune/lyrics. Sure as shooting, when one of us hears it to this day, we will contact/message/text the rest, and the hilarity is the same as it was circa 1979.

  4. Oh.. how did I forget Where the Boys Are? I always enjoyed that song and the old movie too. Vivaldi hit the seasons right on the head with that music! Thanks for introducing me to Still, Still Still as well. Just listened to it by the Tabernacle Choir and its just gorgeous.

    1. I just remember that movie coming on every Friday night when spring break had officially started. (Didn't everyone begin spring break when the bell rang at 3:30 Friday afternoon?)

  5. I really enjoyed my visit here and the music. It reminded me of the years I took piano lessons. I saved some of the videos to hear later. I loved Hot Fun in the Summertime! I have that album too from the 70's. I got it at the same time as Carole King's Tapestry, gifts from my mom.

  7. Love the way that music is a constant in your life.
Not in mine, but I envy those with an appreciation I lack. Lack to the extend that these days we do our grocery shopping in the 'silent hour'.

    1. I understand music is not for everyone. For me, life without music is not fully living. In fact I hear music even when none is around. If I walk into a dark part of some woods I hear "In the Hall of Mountain King" or watching daybreak I immediately hear Cat Stevens "Morning has Broken" all in my mind but completely present with full orchestration.

  8. I love Vivaldi's Four Seasons-the first classical CD I ever purchased. I start thinking of California Dreaming as the weather gets colder-not sure why, since winter theme. Then of course September by Earth , Wind and Fire.

    1. I first listened to Vivaldi when I was a kid. Dad played dinner music and would put the needle down (yes I am aging myself) and my sister and I would try to guess the piece. It was always one of my favorites.

  9. I cannot stand rap music. I am not sure why they would play that at a business. Loved your answers! Have a great week!

  10. I sometimes don't want any music playing. My brain just needs quiet if it's had a lot of stimulation, but other times it is quite enjoyable.
