Tuesday 4

Once again it is time for the questions from Annie@Tuesday 4. This week's questions concentrate on what we are reading and what we are watching.

1.Which is better... the book or the movie?
Depends. Most of the time the book is much better than the movie. One huge exception is the movie Forrest Gump. The movie is 1,000 x's better than the book

2. Got a reading list for the year?
Not a list but I do have a few library books on hold
The Sentence Louise Erdrich
Booth Karen Joy Fowler
The Unsinkable Greta James Jennifer E smith
The Space Between Us Thrity Umrigar
Found a real winner you will share with us?
I just finished Brown Girls by Daphne Palasi Andreades. I loved it
Yesterday I read The All Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg. It was typical of her style and I enjoy reading her books when I want some light reading.
Speaking of Fannie Flagg, if you are ever in Birmingham you can eat at the real cafe "The Whistle Stop Cafe" was based on.
As an aside, I think my favorite book she wrote was "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man" I am pretty sure it is a fictional interpretation of her time spent as a contestant in the Miss Alabama pageant.

3.What TV shows are you watching lately?
Billions on Showtime, Ghosts on CBS, This Is Us on NBC

4. Is there an actor or actress whose movies you consistently enjoy?
None that come to mind

Come on a play along!

  1. 1. Ha. Before I even got to your answer, I was forming the exact same response.
    2. No reading list. I am a "read them as they come" kinda' gal. I used to be an avid reader, but in the past decade, I seem to have lost my way.
    3. I'm not really an avid t.v. watcher, but I anxiously awaiting season 6 of "Better Call Saul."
    4. I can't think of one.

  2. I like when a movie gets the book right, but generally, I like to make up the visuals in my head while reading.

  3. A movie which is better than the book? Wow. A very rare beast in my eyes.

  4. Always the book for me. No, I just pick up books from the kids and whoever is reading something I think will be good. Finishing House of Cards finally, Love Sandra Bullock.

    1. After the Kevin Spacey debacle I left House of Cards and never went back.

  5. Usually the book, but in my case it was the movie "The Help" that I saw before I read the book.
The book just didn't do it for me after seeing the film.

I've got some thrift store books to read, currently reading Lisa Genova's "Left neglected". The jury is still out on that one.

I'm a big fan of the CSI (including Hawaii and Los Angeles), Chicago Med, PD, and Fire, and Big Sky. Law and Order in some variations as well. (Do you sense a theme here?). I PVR a lot of television and watch it later...after the curling is over.

I can barely tell you names of the characters on the various programs (though I know them to see them), let alone their real life names. So if they show up on another television program or in a movie, it's not often that I recognize them.

    1. I will read just about anything, but the Libby app has changed the availability of free books and I am really taking advantage of it.

  6. I enjoyed reading your answers. I haven't been reading much, lately, and have been watching very few movies. Don't watch a lot of TV shows, either, unless they are news programs!

    1. I prefer to watch movies but TheHub likes to watch serials. I can watch/listen to movies during the day while I do routine household tasks, so it works for us.

  7. Enjoyed reading your answers. I didn't join in today. I do love "This is Us!"

  8. How could I have forgotten my favorite movie, Forrest Gump?! WHile I've not read any of Flannie Flagg's books, I'm feeling the need for something light-hearted.

  9. I enjoy Fannie Flagg, but have not read "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man". It's an older book, so our library system only has one copy. I put it on hold. We'll see if I can get it. Thanks for the recommendation.

    1. I am not positive but I think it was her first novel. I really did enjoy it. (A hundred years ago!)

  10. I watched LINE OF DUTY several years ago. They came out with season 6 and I rushed to start it only to realize I forgot about the show so I started over from Season One. I loved it all over again and when I got to Season 5 it wasn't there. The new season 6 was there but no season 5. For some reason it is on HULU so I have to find it first before I can finish 6. Well, you ask what I was watching.

    1. I started over with Mrs.Maisel because TheHub had never seen it before. I am kind of glad I did because I had forgotten a lot of it.

  11. Almost always the book is better than the movie. Although a good TV mini series -- one where they take 8 or more hours to get through the book -- can be as good, sometimes better.

  12. I tend to think books are always better than films because it's your own imagination that does the work. That being said, some films are also wonderful. I remember thinking The Shining was wonderful but when I read the book I started to think that the film fell short!

    1. I think The Shining was a little darker in the book than in the movie. Audiences might not have liked it as much.

  13. The Space Between Us is one of my favorites!
