Fed___Like it or Not

The honeymoon with this "use it up" challenge is definitely over. I have no idea what I want to cook for dinner, but I want to be able to go to the grocery store and decide on the spot. I still have 9 more days before I will allow myself to shop willy nilly. (Unless I decide to continue the challenge or a modified version of it a little bit longer. The jury is still out on that idea.)
Meanwhile I continue to feed us.

Weekly Wrap Up
I like seeing a few small spaces appear in the freezer.
This is a good way to rotate some of the foods that desperately need to be rotated.
I also like not spending money for many groceries this month.

Going Forward
The freezer is still quite full, as is the pantry. The produce is dwindling and I will need to buy some more this week. With the bread purchase and the 2 loaves of sourdough bread I made this week, we have plenty, plus I still have 15 pounds of unopened flour, so I can always make more bread.
I have tons of sourdough discard from feeding the starter and should be able to bake some treats using it. I have bags of chocolate and butterscotch bits along with recipes for discard chocolate chip and discard oatmeal cookies. This could be a possibility.

* I was painting masks for  Independence Place's upcoming play and forgot to take my lunch. Son2 offered me a slice of his pizza but I only took 1/4 of it.
** On the way home from IP I was still hungry. My car turned by itself into Full Moon BBQ and there was nothing I could do but order cookies. They only sell them in packs of 3 or 6, so I had no choice but to eat all 3.
*** I will probably lose my southern card for having the box of stuffing mix in the pantry.
**** I am not the only one who buys excessively!

  1. The things cars will do--all on their own!

    1. Yep, it turned all by itself and once in the drive through line I was obligated to order.

  2. Sounds like you're doing a great job working down the freezer and pantry. Homemade bread is the way to go. So much cheaper and tastes so much better. Have a great week Anne!

    1. I have made breads before but never dabbled in sourdough. I think this is going to be a weekly thing now.

  3. I need to know more about these cookies - what kind are they?

    1. They are perfect chocolate chip cookies half dipped in milk chocolate

  4. You inspire me to use what I have!

    1. I have been using things and they seem to be multiplying instead of decreasing!

  5. My car likes to turn into Chick-fil-A for their cookies. 😂 🍪

  6. Why are asparagus gross? I love them, esp. the white one.

  7. My car has been known to turn itself into various fast food place drive throughs! :D
The cookies do taste delicious - choc chip and dipped in chocolate?! Yum!
You continue to do well with this challenge! I'm impressed!

    1. The cookies they make are perfect cookies. You can taste the butter and brown sugar along with the chocolate and pecans. They are delicious___at least my car thinks they are

  8. I love these posts.

  9. We are sticking to a meal plan very consistently so I shouldn't have excess but my freezer/ fridge/ pantry just get fuller.
All that is to say, I admire your achievements!

    1. I understand the freezer, fridge, pantry getting fuller even when on plan. That is why I had to limit my shopping to just a few necessary items.

  10. I am trying to be better at using the stuff i already have in the pantry and fridge but i do love trying and buying new foods ...

    1. I do too Sherry, which is why I have such and overabundance right now.

  11. What is discard chocolate chip cookies? It sounds blasphemous. I would not worry about the stuffing mix making you lose your Southern card. You have to rack up offenses like points against your driving license before you are penalized.

  12. Cookies made with the discard from feeding a sourdough starter.

  13. I am laughing so hard at your foot notes . . . especially the one about losing your southern card. You are right! You might! Chuckle chuckle!

    1. If the Head Poobah of GRITS (Girls raised in the south) did a pantry inspection and saw that I am sure I would lose it!

  14. I posted a comment yesterday, but it seems to be lost. Anyway, I think you're doing great with your "eat it up" plan. But it sounds like you may have to change it up a bit to keep doing it. Good luck.

    1. I could do it for a couple of months, but the meals would be sketchy and not very good. I might do what Hawaii Planner does and just vow to use 5 items a week from the freezer, without worrying about not going to the grocery store

  15. Thanks for reminding me of Little Shop Of Horrors. Loved that show.

    1. I did too but I like it on stage much better than the movie

  16. you are doing well, keep up the battle, it will feel good when it's all over with!!

    1. I will feel better ,but I have made such little progress using my food storage.

  17. Thank you for saying what I am feeling. I'm tired of reading blogs that are always "correct" and "right" and "perfect". It is nice to see someone that is as human as I am. :-)

  18. I'm rooting for you to stick with it! I've started this same idea many times, and I've NEVER completed it! So please, do this for all of us!

    1. I will continue through the end of the month, and I really do need to add at least a couple of more weeks to the challenge.

Hey y'all thanks for leaving a comment. They are much appreciated. I read them all and do my best to respond to them, except for trolls or spam and I delete those suckers forever.
