Fun,Fun,Fun

On Tuesdays, I follow Annie at Tuesday 4. This week her questions are all about fun. Hop over and join  in!

Did you as a child or do you now like amusement parks, going out to places of entertainment? (theaters, themed parks, etc.)
As a kid/teen I loved amusement parks. As an adult I love theater and jazz clubs.

Which rides/parks did you enjoy the most or what snack foods do you enjoy when you are out and about?
When I used to frequent amusement parks there was no ride too fast for me and if it turned me upside down it was even better. As a kid I loved cotton candy. We generally do not get snacks when out and about now, but I am a threat to get a cup of coffee unless it is hot and then I grab iced tea.

When you were a kid what activities/games/places brought you the most enjoyment?
Honestly, when I was a kid we lived in a neighborhood with about 30 kids all within a four year age range. My happiest times were playing outside with them.  Whenever the weather was favorable we would gather in one particular yard after sundown and play kick the can or hide and go seek.

Would you share with us a fun time or great trip that you've experienced?
We have been lucky and have taken some wonderful trips but, one of our favorites was one in NYC. We were able to go to The Met and see Carmen, We saw Miss Saigon, and saw/heard jazz at 3 different venues (Got to hear and visit Son)

  1. 1. I have always hated amusement parks--crowds, noise, crappy food. I used to love rock concerts, and have been to many, but now I can't face the thought. Now, I prefer the symphony, but mostly, can't stand crowds or noise.
    2. I hated all of it, but did enjoy spending time with my friends.
    3. I grew up in New England, so we mostly got together with friends in summertime. I had a neighborhood of about a dozen kids, and we would walk as a group to the lake during the day, and then hang out on another friend's porch, talking, and listening or playing music. In the winter the thing I enjoyed most, however, were getting together with friends to head to the library to research term papers, and dance class/rehearsals.
    4. Too many to list--but my spending 8 hours alone in Westminster Abbey was one of my favorite days ever.

  2. I'm so glad we grew up in the time we did. It was the same in my neighborhood. Such great memories! I have done a lot of traveling in my life, but somehow still haven't made it to NYC. It's one place I'd still really like to experience!

    1. I am glad I grew up when I did. The outside pressures were few and we could just be kids entertaining ourselves.

  3. I never liked Amusement Parks - and ours were (and I think are) MUCH smaller than yours.
As a child I loved playing outside, riding my bike, meeting up with friends. I also liked curling up with a book. One of my favourite spots to read was high in an oak tree, nestled against its trunk.
My best ever trip was to Antarctica. If money and/or health (or Covid) allowed it I would go again in a heart beat.

    1. I would love to visit Antarctica, but it will not happen for me, which is ok. There are still a ton of places I want to visit that are doable.

    1. I think everyone of a certain age enjoyed playing. I am glad I grew up before video games were a distraction to honest play.

  5. Your childhood neighborhood sounds like mine. There was always a big crowd of kids around and gosh, we never lacked for things to do. We were outside from morning until our parents made us come in.

    1. During the spring, summer and fall we played outside until well after dark. We only left playing to eat or do homework, then came back out for more fun.

  6. We didn't have amusement parks nearby but every year brought the fair to town in the summer. I would get sick on the one orange Crush soda I was allowed. I didn't like the rides either, but I loved the atmosphere.

My favorite times were like yours, outside but since we lived on the farm there weren't friends nearby. But our Dad was great, when he'd come from the fields he'd play hide and seek with us in the evening hours. We played outside most of the day, we had a old cabin that we used as a playhouse, or tramping through the bush behind the house. Oh the adventures we had!

As my favorite trip, I've enjoyed all I've been on, but I think my favorite would be the visit to New Orleans after a cruise in December 2018. I loved the music and the atmosphere of the French Quarter and I'd go back in a heart beat.

    Take care and stay well!

    1. We live close enough to New Orleans that we have been many times. It is a great place to visit, unlike any other city in the U.S.

  8. I grew up in Iowa- no amusement parks for me as a kid but the yearly county fair.I have always liked rides- roller coasters not a lot but I always was a good sport and rode with the family. I LOVE Disney World and have been many times. My favorite resort is the Grand Floridian and when they reopen, I want to stay there again $$ and all. I have always been a bookworm and preferred reading than playing outside but I'm the oldest of 6 and there was always something going on.Oh gosh, I've lived in 8 different states but my favorite vacations have been to Hawaii and Paris. I also loved Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I've been to San Francisco several times, lived in Chicago, Washington DC and Connecticut within commuting distance of NYC- not bad for a gal from Iowa.

    2. Yes, my late husband worked for a large corporation before he suddenly died 20 years ago. He had several promotions and those often required a move. No matter where we lived, we always went back to Iowa in the summer and Christmas- only missed Christmas for 2 January births of babies.

  9. I am very prone to motion sickness, so amusement parks are not my favorite, not to mention that there were none around where I grew up. I, too, liked playing outside especially swinging in the tree swing we had in the large walnut tree in our yard. When my father would push me, I felt like I was flying.

    1. I had no motion sickness as a kid, but as an adult the motion does bother me some.

  10. Used to love amusement parks, but now I can't be bothered. We lived in Florida for over a decade, and never made it to Disney World. Did go to Epcot Center once, and liked it for about 3 hours. Then got turned off by the crowds. So I guess just not our thing.

  11. I'm with you on the rides!!
I mentioned my trip to Europe but the trip to New York was so exciting. I visited things from movies I love and it was spectacular. We also had a view of Central Park from our hotel room.

    1. I loved Europe, but we were caught up doing typical touristy things. Our son lives in New York and pre-covid we would go several times a year. Eventually, except for a play we wanted to see or an opera we wanted to go to, we tended to find things off the beaten path. There are/were so many small little jazz clubs all over the city that we tend to gravitate towards. We love music and nothing beats live music!
