Food for the Non- thinking

I have no idea what we ate last week. I had no plan andn pretty much adhered to it. We ate whatever I could cook or make quickly . Sandwiches possibly? I have not been in the mood to cook which leads me to wonder:once TheHub retires do I get to retire from doing all the household chores and cooking? I have been doing that as long as he has been employed, seems only fair that retirement should be mutual.

I could even turn over all the Christmas shopping, gift wrapping, entertaining, cookie baking, etc. to him.. For years other than financial the only Christmas obligation he had was buying something for me. This is sounding appealing!

And on to the menu of sorts:
We have 2 Christmas parties that include dinners. That onlleaves 5 meals to plan
1. Spaghetti with meat sauce, tossed salad
2. Stuffed baked potatoes, coleslaw
3. Soup
4. Taco salad
5. Sandwiches

When I look back at this, I realize this is not really a plan, but another week of doing the least amount of cooking possible. Oh well!

Have a great week staying on plan, going off plan or with no plan at all.

  1. When my friend reached 91, she declared she was tired of cooking. She has not cooked since. They run out to get fast food every day. Daughter or granddaughter bring meal for more than one meal. I gave them a $25 gift certificate for Chicken Salad Chick that bought two meals twice--so four meals. I need to develop this attitude. Have you discussed this with husband? I am not ready to retire from cooking, but close.

    1. I can't imagine going out for fast food all the time, and TheHub is always ready to go out to eat. I am just not a fan of cooking every night.

  2. Since I am a fan of homemade meals, I guess I have to cook...my husband is incapable of making a decent meal. The only thing he can cook is probably spaghetti bolognese, and with knorr mix of course.

  3. We are both retired and meals can be sketchy. They (mostly) work for us though. And yes, chores should indeed be shared.

    1. TheHub is actually a better housekeeper, but he is a tad obsessive.

  5. My Mom said the same thing when she hit her late 60's. She said I'm retired too and I'm not cooking every single day. lol When TBG retired he picked up some of the household duties since I'm still working. As long as everyone eats, it doesn't matter how it happens.

    1. I agree it does not matter who cooks or where the food comes from

  6. Now, you're planning and cooking like I do. Whatever is easy and we feel like. :)

  7. I've actually done more cooking and cleaning since I retired, so perhaps your husband will be prepared to do that too. ;)
Of course, I was responsible for almost all of it before I retired, until my kids were old enough to fix something for themselves. They did their own laundry too from the age of 12 or 13, but weren't very good at cleaning up after themselves. Still aren't, come to think of it.

    1. I really don't mind the actual cooking part, but I get tired of planning.

  8. Yum, all of that sounds delicious! I need to make taco salad soon as we enjoy it very much.

  9. We do too. In fact we like it better than actual tacos.

  10. Sounds fair to me. If they can retire why can't we? My husband does however to some things in the house that I can't do because of my COPD. He does most of his laundrry too.

    1. TheHub does his shirts for the office, but I do his other laundry. Right now I would just love a little help getting the Christmas decorations up.

  12. When one of my brothers retired, he took over the cooking as his wife was still working. I'm retired, but, I still cook because there isn't anyone else to cook for me!

    1. I know TheHub will never take over the cooking because he is a terrible cook, but hope springs eternal.

  13. My dad was a football coach & high school teacher for years. When he gave up coaching (maybe after 20 years or so into his career), he & my mom swapped, and he took on all of the cooking. He still cooks now, 30+ years later. At first, he was terrible! There were some super inedible meals in there, but now he's a great cook. I still remember the Cajun soup recipe he made... we drank a gallon of water and just moved the jug to the table. Nope!

  14. I saw a tik tok recently which said "when your siblings have all moved out and your parentsnhave stopped cooking" the video was somebody eating toast.
I feel like I will be the toast queen when the family have all gone and I think you are entitled to retire or simplify.
It still looks like a good food week to me
