Weekly I create a list of the joys I find each and every day. Some days are more joy filled than others, but every single day has something joyful. Some days I have to look long and hard to find it, and some days the joy is so present it smacks me right in the face.
I hope on New Year's Eve when I read this compilation of weekly joys, I will find that in spite of death, Covid, and self isolation, every single day had something worth celebrating.
Wednesday: A couple of my neighbors wanted to see if Mom had anything they could use in the new reading room they are creating for their older girls who are going to do remote learning when school starts back in August. They got a lovely small chest and a cute end table. I am glad they can use it. They sent me a picture of it underneath a huge picture of a cows head. I responded that the dresser was meant to live under a Cow's senior portrait. Whimsy is joyful!
Thursday: DlL3 went with me to Aldi again. I cannot tell you how nice it is to have someone else go with me, just for the companionship. It's kind of nice to have someone help me bag the groceries too!
Friday: According to Heather, my bank manager, I was the customer of the week for cashing in 215 dollars worth of coins. Now I begin the collection process all over again.
Son3 called his former band director, the guy who bakes those decadent cakes, and ordered another one. Again he was told to use us as guinea pigs for whatever skill he needed to practice on. We just wanted the delicious cake. He left it entirely white this time but practiced some swirl techniques. Delicious and beautiful, but did I mention how delicious it is!?!
We also had a Swedish feast complete with singing, thanks to my lovely DIL. I am going to have to learn some Swedish so I can sing along.
Saturday: I forgot to write anything about Saturday and now it is a blur. I know something wonderful was a part of the day, I just don't remember it because I am old, and if I don't record it, it didn't happen! I do know TheHub and I ran a couple of errands and we roasted (because it was 1,000,000 degrees outside) while wearing masks, but by crackie, we wore them! Oh and with that I do remember another joy. DIL3 has been making masks with some of the fabric from Mom's stash. She made me a wonderful reversible mask! The only thing better than a new mask is a fashionable new mask!
Sunday: The day's joy came from sharing time with our family. Son2 and DIL2 came over to join us for conversation and dinner. I am so incredibly lucky that my sons choose wonderful women to share their lives and tangentially share mine. I was treated to smiles and laughs and the occasionally off color comment! Lenny Kravitz had nothing on my sons!
Monday: A man a plan Panama! Like this sentence the day was the same backwards and forwards. I did have a long phone conversation with my friend who is struggling with things no one can control right now and it truly is a joy to be someone's listening post. She has been a great friend for many years and been there when I needed someone. It is a gift (to me) to be able to return the favor.
Also TheHub decided we needed to carry the tradition of singing and schnapps with our traditional American meal, so we did. Then we followed it by watching Hamilton. I can cancel my Disney subscription now!
Tuesday: The day was like any other day for the past 5 months. Are any of you old enough that you remember the old directions on a shampoo bottle: Lather, Rinse, Repeat. DIL2 came over for a visit and her sweet heart always makes everything better! I did watch Amazon's new show Radioactive about the life of Marie Curie. It was very enjoyable.
Wishing you a week of joys. They are there, both small and large. Just look for them!

Such wonderful joys for the week! You have reminded me that I should probably use this time to roll up my collection of coins!
ReplyDeleteGlad to serve as a reminder!
DeleteAnne,
ReplyDeleteI just emailed you on the Christmas card email.
I saw it and answered it later last night. Was not on the computer much during the day.
DeleteAlways a pleasure to read the list of joys! :-)
ReplyDeleteI use it like you use your journal. It keeps me mindful to look toward happiness rather than gloom, especially now that life is not the brightest it has been before.
DeleteI just saw the advert for MArie Curie-glad ot know it is worth the watch. I got to see the old FB picture of the cake-so lovely! I love that you love your DIL's somuch. Part of my wanting my children ot find partners is I want the chanvce to be a good MIL an expand my family-selfish right, all about me. I can't even imagine what my college kid has in change. she has multiple very large bacnks fro infancy. I can' even lift one it is so heavy.
ReplyDeleteI generally save our change for the year then stick it in an account for Pip. Since March I have fed it very little because most of my transactions have been via credit cards. In fact since I have cashed it all in I have not put once cent back in the coin bank.
DeleteRadioactive was a good movie, but I like Roasmund Pike .
I still walk around saying Rinse, Lather, Repeat when appropriate. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's either that or "Groundhog Day"
DeleteI like reading your list of joys each week, Anne. I like having someone help me bag groceries at ALdi too. :)
ReplyDeleteYes the bagging thing is a true gift and joy! I love everything about Aldi except for the bagging process.
DeleteThanks for the recommendation for Radioactive. I like Rosamund Pike very much too, so I'll give that a shot!
ReplyDeleteIt was worth the time. I have no idea if Marie Curie was as strong of a personality as they gave her in the movie, but I really liked the portrayal.
DeleteI always enjoy reading your joys of the week. I suspect the greatest joy will come when you look back at the year, and know that you made it through with the ability to find joy in every day. It's a great lesson for all of us.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay well.
That is exactly my aim in recounting all of these daily joys. I want to look back and see in spite of everything wonders happen every single day.
DeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome
DeleteI love reading your list. I really need to do something similar in the nightly bedtime journal.
ReplyDeleteBarb it puts my head in a better place.
