The Bard said it best in his play "Twelfth Night"
"If music be the food of love, play on"
Let's skew his meaning a bit and see just where the love of food and the love of music takes us.

Tuesday 4
Since this pandemic and accompanying isolation occurred I have a difficult time remembering what day of the week it is. Back in my old normal, I had events on different days of the week which kept my days in check. Now when I actually remember it is Tuesday, I follow Annie at Tuesday 4. Each week she posts 4 questions, and each week it gives me food for thought.
This week let's talk about books and TV programs you enjoy.
1. Are you enjoying a book right now and would you tell us about it? I am reading 3 books right now but I am enjoying one of them. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and it was one I found there. From the reviews I thought it would be much better than it is but I have this self inflicted rule that once I start a book I have to finish it. So I am currently muddling through Magical Midnight Madness by K.F. Breene. I am also reading a Max Lucado book, And The Angels Were Silent, and well as The Vatican Pimpernel By Brian Fleming. All my life I have been a book juggler.
2. Do you have a list of books you are looking forward to reading in the near future?
I always have a list of books, but sometimes I change the order I intend to read them.
Right now I have a few books in my reading queue
The Other Emily Dean Koontz
Everybody Lies Seth Stephens-Davidowitz
The Sewing Machine Natalie Fergie
The House of Mirth Edith Wharton
3. What's on television (or YouTube, etc.) at your house?
Currently we are watching the NATGEO genius series Aretha (Watchinng via HULU)
We tend to watch streaming services rather than network television
4.What series have you followed religiously and why? (can be TV or book series)
Game of Thrones tv series
All of the Fire and Ice series that has been written so far, but after watching the last season of GOT I will most likely not read the remaining books when/if Martin ever finishes them.
I read the books and got hooked on the story so I was more than ready to watch the HBO version. I thought until season 4 of the show it was brilliantly done, but the last two seasons turned to crap.
I do follow This Is Us, but I DVR it and watch several episodes at once.
And my guilty pleasure is Married at First Sight, which I also DVR and then just listen to as I go about my business in the house. It is mainly a train wreck, so listening is more than enough for me. But I do listen to each episode.
So hop on over to Annie's blog and join in the fun.
Love that song by the Beatles! Bring back such memories. I watch streaming shows too. I don't have cable so can't get the network ones. Thanks for visiting me today.
Love the song. I still haven't gone back to reading since the pandemic first hit, I was too glued to the news last year and been too busy this year. I'll have to add it to my challenge list soon. I haven't heard of that Koontz book. He was once one of my very favorites but I don't think I've read anything past the Odd series. I'm going to have to check out what I've missed. Maybe we should start out every blog post saying what day it is to help us all remember lol!
You will love The House of Mirth, one of the books I studied. Series on TV that I have and do follow--MASH, ALF, Frasier, and another one I cannot think of. I follow Jean Auel, author of The Clan of the Cave Bear. I love John Irving but his books aren't series.
Even my non musical self knows and loves that song. I too juggle books I usually have a fiction and non-fiction book 'on the go'. Reading is a huge part of my life, and I am endlessly grateful to authors. I too am struggling to know what day it is. Often.
I hear people say they are reading several books at one time. How do you do it? I'm lucky to remember the one story I'm reading. I love This Is Us and I DVR all of my TV watching so I can FF through commercials.
1. I am reading a Suzannah Lipscomb's "A Journey through Tudor England," among other books. I chucked a Max Lucado book, yes, tossed it straight in the trash, ("6 Hours one Friday," was a lousy read anyway) many years ago. Books written by hateful homophobes are not welcome in my library. 2. I would like Joanna Trollope to come out with another Aga Saga. 3. I watched "Maudie" on Vudu, and was annoyed at the way they portrayed Everett Lewis. By all contemporary accounts, he was a foul, mean, parsimonious and illiterate monster, who treated Maude cruelly. We are also re-watching "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul." 4. "Harry Potter," (both books and movies) "Better Call Saul," "Breaking Bad," and "The Tudors." I also read the David Eddings "Mallorean" and "Belgariad" series years ago. I can't really recall any recent book series I've read.
You listed so many books. You make me want to read....(I am taking a reading break)..it will not last long, but I read so many books a few weeks ago when we had a big snow. We were snowed in for like two weeks, so I read a lot. Now I am tired of reading. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.
I'm re-reading an old classic The Yearling. I had forgotten how good it was! I just finished several contemporary fiction books- I joined the book of the month club- and really enjoyed What's Mine and Yours by Coster. I journal all my books- title, author, and short synopsis. So far this year I have read 25 books. As for TV, I like all medical series and am especially enjoying the Resident. I also loved Longmire and wish that show hadn't ended. PS my oldest daughter was a literature major in college, my youngest has her masters in library science and my son loves to read too as my mother and granny did- it's genetic in our family LOL. GD is on book 4 of Harry Potter and she's just turning 7 in May.
I can put down a book and not finish it if I don't like it. It is usually because the subject matter is too intense or depressing. I read at night and that's not good material to go to sleep by. However, my mother was like you. She finished every book she picked up.
I used to be a biok binger if a word, but struggle lately so why I've been doing book clubs. I'm not enjoying The Taster, but the conversation should be good.
I am addicted to every book by C.J. Box, especially his Joe Pickett novels. Currently I am watching National Geographic Channel for Zoos down under and China and Japan tales. My favorite series was Game of Thrones and Outlander.
I'm currently reading a series of books by Canadian broadcast journalist Linden MacIntyre - The Long Stretch, The Bishop's Man, Why Men Lie. A friend once reminded me that life is too short to read a bad book; I find it very hard not to finish what I've started. I can have more than one book going at a time; it's like changing the tv channel. I watch This Is Us awa Tough As Nails and The Voice. I enjoy the morning lifestyle tv programs. There are 2 other reality shows that I really enjoy - Island Diaries and Grand Designs, even on repeat.
I used to think I had to finish any book I started (and indeed some of them do improve if you stick with them), but now I just reckon life's to short to finish a not-doing-it-for-me book!
I have never been able to get into Edith Wharton for some reason. I don't have your rule about finishing books, and I've never gotten more than a quarter of way into one of hers before I gave up. Don't know why I'm having a problem, because she's the sort of writer I'd think I'd like. Maybe need to give her one more try.
I think there are authors that just don't appeal to us and it is OK. Hemmingway tells a great story, but to me he reads like he shot his words out of a machine gun and I don't enjoy reading him at all.
The Vatican Pimpernel sounds interesting. I will give it a look see! There are some books I finished and was sorry I did as the endings were just such a disappointment. It was almost as if the author got tired of writing! Thanks so much for joining in!
I'm reading the Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan, so that's a book I'm currently reading, plus a list of books I'm planning to read. I hear Amazon is making a series of it, in the hopes that it will be next Game of Thrones. In terms of TV, my husband and I have a tradition of seeing as many of the nominated films as we can once the Golden Globes nominees are announced, and then we follow it up with any stragglers that make the Oscars. He's a film buff. I like films, so for me is a weird tradition of seeing movines that I don't find appealing. But I have to confess that each movie - even if it isn't exactly up your alley - turns out to have obvious merit. I've seen a lot of movies that surprised me by being much better than I thought they'd be. However, this year, for the first time, I saw a couple flat-out loosers: Borat, and that awful Sia movie. (Usually, what I'm describing is not TV, but this year, it is!) Series, I hate to admit it, but I was a Supernatural fan. The series finale did not disappoint!
I had to look up the series. It sounds like something I would like. THeHub and I usually see all the Oscar nominees, but this year and the covid restrictions have changed all that for us.
Hey y'all thanks for leaving a comment. They are much appreciated. I read them all and do my best to respond to them, except for trolls or spam and I delete those suckers forever.

ReplyDeleteI love The Beatles!

ReplyDeleteI think it would be wonderful if someone would post a day of the week reminder!
DeleteYou will love The House of Mirth, one of the books I studied. Series on TV that I have and do follow--MASH, ALF, Frasier, and another one I cannot think of. I follow Jean Auel, author of The Clan of the Cave Bear. I love John Irving but his books aren't series.
ReplyDeleteIrvings books are not serial books but most have a very similar theme. I am re-reading Mirth. It appeared on Kindle unlimited so I snagged it.
DeleteEven my non musical self knows and loves that song. I too juggle books I usually have a fiction and non-fiction book 'on the go'. Reading is a huge part of my life, and I am endlessly grateful to authors.
ReplyDeleteI too am struggling to know what day it is. Often.
I love reading also and always have at least 3 in the loop.

ReplyDeleteI ff through the commercials also. I don't know how I do it (juggle books) but I have done it as long as I have been reading.

Fire and Ice is the most recent series I have read. I generally don't read beyond the first book in one.

I have to read like I have to breathe

ReplyDeleteI think reading is one of the best gifts we can pass along!
DeleteI can put down a book and not finish it if I don't like it. It is usually because the subject matter is too intense or depressing. I read at night and that's not good material to go to sleep by. However, my mother was like you. She finished every book she picked up.
ReplyDeleteI just can't do it, even if I have to put it aside briefly, I have some weird compulsion to finish it
DeleteI used to be a biok binger if a word, but struggle lately so why I've been doing book clubs. I'm not enjoying The Taster, but the conversation should be good.
ReplyDeleteI have often not enjoyed book club books, but I finish them anyway!
DeleteI am addicted to every book by C.J. Box, especially his Joe Pickett novels. Currently I am watching National Geographic Channel for Zoos down under and China and Japan tales. My favorite series was Game of Thrones and Outlander.
ReplyDeleteI loved GOT until the final 2 seasons. Then I thought they were more into special effects than the actual story≥
DeleteI'm currently reading a series of books by Canadian broadcast journalist Linden MacIntyre - The Long Stretch, The Bishop's Man, Why Men Lie. DeleteI used to think I had to finish any book I started (and indeed some of them do improve if you stick with them), but now I just reckon life's to short to finish a not-doing-it-for-me book!
ReplyDeleteI need to adopt that attitude toward books, but I am not sure I can.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read or watched any of Game of Thrones but I do like the sound of Magical Midnight Madness and have added it to my list. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHave a great time reading it Eileen!

Anne, I know you turned off comments on yesterday's post, but, I hope everything is OK and all are safe.
ReplyDeleteI am totally safe, it was just an Alexander type of horrible day.
DeleteThank you. I too was worried (which unfortunately is one of my special talents).
