When I remember, I follow Annie at Tuesday 4, where she posts four questions. This week the post is about home. Hop over and join in!
In what part of the country is your current home located? North, South, East, West, Mid West,
coastal, rural, city, mountains or plains?
coastal, rural, city, mountains or plains?
I live in the south, Alabama to be specific, the suburbs of Birmingham to be precise.
Why did you choose your present home, and how long have you lived there?
One of my best friends had divorced and she needed to sell her home. I needed/wanted a larger house and had always liked her house, so we bought it.
We have lived here for 23 years now. I figure we will stay here a few more years and then we will downsize. It is really much too large for us now.
What do you like the most about your present home?
Several years ago I redid the kitchen. It works the way I like a kitchen to function and I have room for everything.
If money were no object, is there anything you would change about your present home, or would you keep it just the way it is?
The master bath is a large and inefficient room. It has one of those diagonal gigantic jetted tubs, fitted into the corner of the room and it takes up entirely too much real estate. I have never been one to loll in the bathtub, and could count on one hand the number of times we have used it. To clean it, I use the brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner, which speaks to how useful it is, though it does make an excellent toilet paper storage place. (I think I have 7 12 roll packs in there t the moment).
We plan on removing the tub, having a small soaker tub put in and expanding the shower. I would be just as happy to have no tub at all, but we have to consider what is best for resale value.
I also dislike the brick color, but it is not offensive, so I will never do anything different to it.
I want a photo of your piss elegant TP storage.lol
ReplyDeleteI would post a picture but I would have to haul out the vacuum out first and I am not inspired at the moment!
DeleteIf money were no object I would have the ensuite made disability friendly, the house repainted and new carpet laid down. I would also cover the roof in solar panels - and include a battery.
ReplyDeleteOf those the carpeting and the repainting will happen. Eventually.
Yep the eventually! We will redo this bathroom eventually also.
DeleteAnd Here we have a nice big master bedroom, with only a walk through to the only bathroom upstairs which is entirely too small to be both the master and the main bathroom, but I have a pointless built in vanity in the bedroom. Dumb home design of the time-why they didn't design without the vanity and walk in closet (Which isn't that big of a walk in any way, and use the back wall of the bedroom for just a regular, or side by side regular closets. I would redesign to make the bath have both a tub and shower and double sink, with a built in linen closet. No one would miss the loss of real estate in the master, plus, I'd get a wall back to place the bed against and have the bed face the window.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand the form over function design concept!
DeleteGreat idea to use the tub for toilet paper storage. I keep the kitty litter box in mine lol.
ReplyDeleteHey, they have to be used for something!
DeleteI had to laugh at your TP storage unit! :D
ReplyDeleteI know most people don't think bathtub and toilet paper go together, but it works well for us.
DeleteOh my goodness! WE have a huge, jetted bathtub that came with this house, that we also do not use!!! LOL I have been thinking what a tremendous waste of space it is, but you have just given me an idea! And the way you clean it is genius. I am way too old to climb in there just to wipe out dust bunnies!
ReplyDeleteGotta use the space for something, and it frees up closet space for more stuff (which I need to gt rid of instead of storing)
DeleteThat is so funny that you use the bathtub for tp storage. I would do the same thing! I would love to do away with our tub too and just make a huge walk in shower. :)
ReplyDeleteWe both are shower people and I would love a huge shower. One day I will have a bigger one, but it will never be huge!
DeleteEnjoyed reading your answers. Our jet tub, which isn't in the way but it definitely gets dusty! We don't use it.
ReplyDeleteJust about all of my friends have these tubs and no one uses them. They are so big it takes too much water to fill them and cleaning them is a beast.
DeleteI have a small house. It works for me but I think I would have issues if I were wheelchair bound because it is not designed for that in the kitchen and bathroom. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteI don't have a small house but I would still have issues if I were wheelchair bound also.
DeleteI love a tub. In my old house, people thought it was a pity I did not have a shower. If I had wanted one, I could have put one above the clawfoot tub. But, I hate a shower.
ReplyDeleteEven the handful of times we have used the tub we have gotten right out of it and stepped into the shower to wash off.
DeleteI am not much of a tub person anymore. I used to love a bath. I never stayed in very long, but I enjoyed it. I hurt now when I try to get out of the tub, so I do not mess with a bath very much anymore. Loved your answers! Have a nice week!

Thanks Lori! I have not been bath person since I was a kid. As soon as I could manage showers by myself it became my thing. Plus as a teen and for a long time after, I washed my hair every day, so the shower was mostly a necessity.
DeleteToo funny. We had one of those huge jacuzzi tubs in our old house. I felt the same way. The master bath took up way to much real estate in the house. I wanted to jerk out that tub and put a sitting area. I am a bather. I hate showers as they make me cold and once I get cold, I cannot warm up. Even in the heat of summer I must soak in a hot tub.
ReplyDeleteI know everybody has their preferences. I just like a steaming hot shower in the morning.
DeleteI have several relatives in Alabama, and in the burbs of B'ham... Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYou have. great week also!
DeleteI am definitely a shower person, also. You have given me a good idea of where to store the extra toile paper--in the guest bathroom tub since it only gets used a couple of times a year. :)
ReplyDeleteYou will be surprised how much you can stash in a tub!
DeleteWe're shower people, not bath tub people at all, so we'd use one of those large tubs for storage, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteYep it makes a great doorless cabinet. Since we are the only ones who are ever in that bathroom it just makes sense to us.
DeleteI was a city girl all my life but my second husband introduced me to the country. I am in the rural area called Green Country and learned to have chickens, goats, guinea fowl, dogs and cats and would not trade it for a second. Living in the country for 21 years now.
ReplyDeleteI think the country is just beautiful, but I think I am too old of a dog to learn to enjoy rural living!
DeleteI think there are always things in a home we'd like to change. Currently I'm working on a list of items to make the house more sale-able. I wouldn't want one of those big soaker tubs, but if I had all the money in the world, I'd rearrange the master bedroom to enlarge the current ensuite - it's a small shower, a one sink vanity and toilet. I've got ideas but no money for it.
ReplyDeleteTake care, stay well!
