I decided I would keep a list of our actual harvest this year. We have a very small suburban gardening space but have various things planted in pots and containers all around the yard, I am excluding herbs from the totals since I grab them to use in cooking, or dry them in small batches to keep for later use.
June Harvest:
yellow squash -9
zucchini -8
cucumber- not producing yet, not growing well at all
bell pepper -7
banana pepper- 13
cayenne pepper-4
green beans -8 pounds
tomato -some still green, 1 dead plant, others still questionable
cherry tomato- 9
radish- chipmunks delight
potato- not yet time to dig
lettuce- I am evidently growing this only to feed critters
okra- not yet producing but looking really healthy
apples- 2 are still on the trees, but I have serious doubts about them becoming ripe, though we do have some seriously happy squirrels
pears- zilch. I am thinking of getting rid of the pear trees. They are not pretty trees and have never had more than a handful of blossoms.
July Harvest:
August Harvest:
You are rich in green beans, dear Farmer In The Dell.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
We are harvesting over 1/2 pound every day
DeleteHarvest?
ReplyDeleteI got nothing.... ;-)
Yours will come, we are before your season.
DeleteYum
ReplyDeleteThe green beans tonight were delicious!
DeleteYou are doing well with your garden harvest!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I found some recipes online for green bean chutney! They all seem to be British versions of chutney, which is a little different from what I call chutney, but, it might be worth looking into as something to do with your green beans! :)
I will be looking for that! I have to find some more ways to use these besides eating them everyday and freezing them daily!
DeleteSounding good. I am surprised you only have seven zukes - or was it a misprint and should have been 77?
ReplyDeleteNope just 7. We think a friendly neighborhood rabbit might be eating the very small ones. But this is definitely the year of the green beans!
DeleteAfter last year, I give up. Something ate everything but the eggplant which was give to me and I never planted. It just lived in its original little pot and nothing ate it. I only got one squash and two grape tomatoes. This was all on the front. Out back, the lettuces and kale were abundant, but I can barely get back there.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get green beans everyday and eat them as they are my favorite vegetables and I love them plain.
One time, a woman let me glean. I picked green beans about the diameter of a matchstick or maybe a bit larger and 3 or four inches long. Those went into a salad of other greens. They were delicious.
given to me.
DeleteWe are eating green beans nearly everyday, and I am freezing them daily also. Plus we are giving them away to our neighbors and my sister
DeleteIronically, the beans are the only thing we've struggled with! I have so many zucchini, and lots of tomatoes & peppers. I'm hoping most of the plants will survive until we get back. We moved a few potted plants into our front yard, where the neighbor boy will spray the hose. We don't want to have him in the back, as we have a pool & he is quite young. Fingers crossed we manage to keep a few plants alive!
ReplyDeleteI hope they all survive!
DeleteLast year of the year of the zucchini and this year is the year of the green beans for you. We haven't been overrun with anything yet, but the tomatoes have the potential this year. We're a little behind you in the growing season, so we're just starting with green ones.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure the rabbit is enjoying the zucchini. Evidently he/she is not a fan of green beans!
DeleteIs the the year for green beans or what?! I'm not growing anything other than herbs this year. I usually kill everything or critters get to things before I can harvest anything anyway. No green thumbs here - sigh.
ReplyDeleteNo green thumb here either, but we are managing to keep the squirrels, chipmunks and the little rabbit well fed.
DeleteI am impressed. I've had about six zucchini. We have one strawberry plant from last year that continued to grow and has filled one whole planter box. We get about 10 - 20 strawberries each day. Cucumber is growing but not sure about it yet. Had no luck last year with them.
