Small Joys for Week 7

Wow, can you believe we are beginning the eighth week of 2022 already.  These are the daily joys for the 7th week of the year. As has been my usual during this time of covid, they are mostly small joys. However, the new infection numbers are dropping rapidly and I have started living (a small) life outside of the house and the grocery store. Trust me though, I will be the one wearing a mask with access to my ever present hand sanitizer!

Saturday: Another drop dead gorgeous day in the 60's! TheHub went to the office until about noon so I was able to do some serious laundry and a few household chores before he came home just in time for us to watch the second half of the Alabama/Arkansas basketball game. Bama won but played badly and eked out a win (got lucky)
After the game it was late enough in the afternoon that the lunch crowd was mostly over, and we decided to ride to a different section of town to find a restaurant that looked interesting. We wound up in Cahaba Heights at The Pita Stop, a locally owned Mediterranean restaurant. The tables were spaced far apart, there was virtually no crowd, plus their food is  always delicious. Win!
Afterward we ate we stopped at Cookie Fix and bought a couple of small boxes of cookies to drop off to two of our friends who are recuperating from surgeries. Then it was home to finish the season of Yellowstone! Yes! We are done until next season and I don't have to think about the ranch anymore!

Sunday: What a difference a day makes! I woke to sun, gorgeous skies, wind, and 29 degree temps. It was not a flip flop kind of day even though when you just looked through the windows it was beautiful.
TheHub had a few errands to run and was gone so long I was really getting worried about him, when he walked in carrying a beautiful bouquet of roses. Wow and I though he was just running out to get him some buns for the Super Bowl meal.
I had been trying to be a good grandmother. Pip is now a Brownie Scout and had called me asking if I wanted to buy Girl Scout cookies. Of course I did, even though it meant ordering them to be shipped, and paying shipping charges. They were delivered Sunday in a gigantic box. Now what am I going to do with the eleventy zillion boxes of cookies on my dining room table and no room in the freezer?

Monday: This was the day when I can double dip at The Pig and get  their weekly free item along with their Monday only free special. I was fortunate to see Kenny, my new acquaintance, who was greeting everyone with a huge howdy and smile.
After shopping I ran a small gift to a friend, then I delivered my Valentine's Day gift to My Beloved Sister and BIL.
For dinner TheHub and I exchanged cards and I did make him one of his favorite meals, though he did man the grill!

Tuesday: My sister and I headed to the bank to work out a few final details settling my parents estate. As usual there were a couple of snafu's and we were in the bank for about 2 hours. I have no idea why having an odd maiden name, spelling it over and over, mentioning how it is always misspelled, and still having it misspelled on legal documents can happen twice in the same meeting is possible. Glad that is over! And extremely glad that we can laugh about screw ups that happen.

Wednesday: The day was gorgeous, warm, sunny and I should have been working in the yard instead of sitting on the porch reading!
I had watched 3 seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and had told TheHub I thought he would enjoy it. Of course he could not be bothered watching it when it began, but decided he wanted to see it now. So I am rewatching it with him. It is amazing how much I had forgotten,

Thursday: What a difference one day can make. The temperatures were still unseasonably warm, but the rains were coming, followed by thunderstorms, with high winds, and tornado warnings. They did not hit around me but were on the ground about 20 miles east of here. I am not sure if a tree or a house a little behind mine got his by lightening, but something did. After the storm had passed I went outside to see what/if tree branches had fallen and could smell wood burning, then when TheHub came home he said there was a fire engine outside of the house where the explosion sound came from. I hope it was just a tree!

Friday: Another huge weather difference. It was in the 70's on Thursday and 24 Friday night! We met Son2 and DIL2 at Seasons 52 for dinner. It was actually our Valentine's celebration with them since they had plans the prior weekend. We do enjoy our time with them!

So go find your joys, however small. They are always out there if you just look for them!

May all your weeds be wildflowers,
Anne

  1. I love how you're supporting Pip's cookie sales! Glad to know you didn't experience any ill effects from that storm system. Do ya ever get the feeling Mother Nature is bi-polar?

PS - Did you see where Sean Dietrich and Jamie are moving to Birmingham? Avondale, actually.

  2. You remind me I need to order from my great niece. I'm sure there will be girls selling at the grocery store too, so no shortages in my house this spring. I'll save some for my son.

    1. I ordered too many, but she was trying to reach a particular quota, and if your grandmother can't support you, who can?

  3. Sounds like a nice meal and a great treat. How nice to bring some cookies to your friends. We love Yellowstone. I haven't been anywhere to buy Girl Scout cookies this year. Enjoy! We are finishing up my brothers estate and this one place just keeps asking for me things. They just don't want to give the money away. We have had a lot of crazy weather too. Hope your weekend is going well.

    1. Estate settling is not for the faint of heart! There is always something that needs to be done, documented, explained . . .

  4. Does that mean you've got the estate wrapped up? If so, that's wonderful news. I've only handled my Dad's and it was easy because he'd already sold the house and was living in care, so there was just the banks to deal with. Even so, it took nearly a year to ensure it was dealt with properly.

Your flip flop days sound lovely. But what a wide range of temperatures. Fingers crossed the fire was simply a tree that was damaged.

    1. It means it is close to being wrapped up. There is one more tiny detail and then it will be done.
I think lightning either hit the tree or transformer because the house does not appear to be damaged.

  5. Nick bought Girl Scout cookies for me, because his teacher was selling them & he "wanted to be on her good side". :-)

My joys for the week - Sam turned 16, which blows my mind. They finished off the high school soccer season. The spring tennis season has begun. I'm going to learn how to be a "tennis mom", in addition to a "soccer mom". I get the sense that they are quite different, from a spectator perspective. ;-) And, tomorrow we are heading out to Park City for a family ski trip, which is always fun. I try to remind myself that these trips are limited, & to soak them all in!

    1. Smart of Nick!
It seemed to me once the kids hit high school that time accelerated.

  6. Tornadoes scare me - and we get plenty of the warnings here in the midwest! Glad you were safe from them. You have gotten hubs & I watching "Billions!" I know you had mentioned you guys were watching it, so when we were looking for another series to watch, I suggested that. We are really liking it - watching 2 episodes an evening! Thanks for the tip! (We haven't gotten to the last season of Yellowstone yet - that may be next!)
After my husband's parents both died (within 6 mos of each other about 6 yrs ago) it took him 2 years to handle their multi-million dollar estate (which his mother had no idea they had! - she died last. How do you not know how much money you have as a couple? Baffles me - but guess that was their generation, huh?!?). Anyways - it really did take him a lot of time & effort in making sure everything was in order, all bills paid, and distributing the money to his 2 brothers. So I hope that you & sister will be done with everything soon. Glad that you can laugh at the goofs - but still, they have to be frustrating!!
Every day I find blessings - we have what we need & a wonderful family. Good friends & neighbors. But I love that you remind us to look for them - because we are all more fortunate that we sometimes think. I try not to take anything for granted. Ever.
    Have a great week!

    1. We are almost at the 2 year mark. Some things have been irritating and some have been funny. It should be completely settled soon. (Maybe and fingers crossed)
One of my son's former roommates joins the Billions cast in this weeks episode. We caught up with the series specifically to watch Toney.

  7. I worked Thursday and then drive 2 hours to retirement house in ttown. I specifically bought it bc it has a basement. Well, the sirens went off and were loud enough to wake the dead, my phone went off also, dog was barking and growling, etc.. It was pretty scary for a few minutes there. Glad I have a basement! Two streets over the entire neighborhood was wiped out in 2011. Cindy in the South

    1. That tornado was the scariest one I have ever known about. It ripped across the entire width of the state.

  9. I think Mrs Maisel was why I originally signed up for Amazon Prime. I loved it (and the beautiful clothes she wore)! And well done grandma for ordering those cookies, although I probably would have expected them to be more like a box of sand when they arrived!

  10. The cookies are definitely in pieces, but so be it. I would eat “sand” and tell her how amazing they were even if the were totally crumbled

  11. You are a wonderful grandma! Cookie crumbs are wonderful sprinkled on ice cream, made into pie crusts, or stirred into yogurt! :D Sounds like your weather has been all over the place! Glad you weren't in the path of a tornado!
