Smallish Joys are Still Joyful

It is hard for me to believe that I have been recording daily joys for close to a year and a half now. It seems like just the other day when I began. I guess this past year has been consumed with covid  and Mom's house so that time is flitting by me with hardly a notice.
So here are the (mostly small) joys of the 24th week of 2021.

Friday:
I think the only joy on Friday was actually having a day we did not go to Moms house. Simple joys are still joys!

Saturday: The Hub and I had decided to have an adventure. We were planning to go look at RV's and we started out to go see them. A phone call confirmed that a place fairly close to Birmingham had several on the lot. We headed south, but hit a huge traffic snag on the interstate. ( Unbeknownst to us there was a police standoff on the interstate and  traffic was halted both ways. ) After inching along at about 3 miles an hour for over 45 minutes we finally were able to hit an exit. There is always more than one way to skin a cat right?
Since we were still several miles from the exit we would have taken and we had been stuck for so long, we decided to go ahead the grab something to eat.  We found a new to us place and had a nice lunch, then took back roads to the RV place, which we walked into then turned around and walked out of. Too much red tape when all we wanted to do was look through a couple of units.
After our bust there, we made a couple of stops including me buying one of the ugliest swim suits I have ever seen. It  was only 20 bucks, felt great, fit well, and no one but TheHub or My Beloved Sister will ever see it, so who cares?

Sunday: Another Sunday for streaming services from our screened porch. It was lovely but by 9:30 when it was over the humidity and temps increased so much that it was not that pleasant. This could have put an end to our outside services.
Later in the day, I tried several new to me recipes that had zucchini as the star. I will give more feedback on them later.
Then we ended the day hanging out on the sofa watching a movie. To be honest I don't even remember what it was even though I watched it to completion. TheHub watched it with his eyes closed, his mouth opened, breathing loudly (he claims he does not snore, so I will honor his claim)

Monday: Handyman Jerry called to tell me he would be finished with the job by the afternoon. Of course My Beloved Sister and I thought of one additional project for him to do, but it would have to be later in the week or next week since he had scheduled his jobs already. Not a problem. He does really fine work.
You know how choosing tile and grout is a crapshoot sometimes? Well the tile and grout looks fantastic with the quartz countertops!

Tuesday: Another day happened when we did not have to go to Moms house.  Bonus! Of course that also means another day the painters did not finish the job.
After he got home from the office TheHub and I ate dinner then rode to the bluff to see the sunset!

Wednesday: Still another day without painters and it is getting a little old. I know they want their money and I want to pay  them but the job has to be finished first.
On the upside, TheHub and I started swimming laps before we eat dinner. It means we want a lot less and we are more apt to just eat a salad.
After dinner and swimming we drove to see the sunset again. Jazz on the radio and sunset is just about perfect. That is actually when I heard the song posted above.

Thursday: We actually had some forward motion at Mom's. We got the piano moved. Bless those guys who literally picked it up and carried it from the den and through the foyer to keep from scratching the hardwood floors. Later we met with the painter. It did not go terribly well__ because My Beloved Sister takes no prisoners. (I think I need to get her to listen to the song.) And after that debacle we met with the electrician, a super nice and incredibly reasonable fellow. I am thankful for small victories.
Nighttime swimming for the win!

Have a great week and look for whatever joy, wherever you can find it. It is there, even on crummy days.

  1. You did well to walk out of the RV place unscathed. Years ago we went out looking to buy a new toilet and for some reason left that day having signed for a brand new RV!!! We had one for about 15 years and got a lot of pleasure out of it but damn, that was an expensive toilet!

    1. All we wanted to do was look at a couple of models. They wanted us to register and give them all our personal info, mother's maiden names and a pint of blood. I am old enough that it does not bother me at all to just walk away.

  2. Your small joys sound pretty damn good to me. And finding a swimsuit which fits well and feels good is definitely a big joy.

  3. Lots of joys and a few snags along the way - always are. Sorry you weren't able to take a look at the RVs. The lots we have here they are all open to browse. I hope those painters get with the program already!

    1. This was one of the national companies and they are not about to let you browse without having all your info so they can hound you relentlessly.

  4. You forgot that "I" will be seeing that hideous shriek-inducing swimsuit when I get down there!*snort*

    1. I have fittin' for public viewing suits. The lime green number is reserved for extremely close family only. It will not even make an appearance with sons or DIL's.

  5. I laughed when I read about trying out new recipes starring zucchini! You and me both! Hope you'll have better luck with RV viewing at another lot! And hope your sister straightened out those painters! Small joys are good, too; we'll take them!

    1. We are only in the beginning phase of thinking about getting an RV. If we decide we really want one we can make it happen somewhere that is not as invasive. We would not finance it anyway so they really have no business trying to find some of the particulars they were asking for.

  6. I left a car lot because they wanted too much information. Why do they need to check my credit before they will even let me look in car windows...lol. How do they know I don't have cash? Weird. So, I left and found a really good car at a lot out of town. I have never gone back in that place even when another dealer moved in.

    1. It was similar there and we would never finance an RV so their digging was a moot point. Doesn't matter__I won't go back there.

  7. Sounds like a good week!
    Love your sense of humor.
Are you having much rain? Wasn't sure how close you were to the coast.

    1. We are having rain, but it is not bad__so far! We are a tad over 200 miles from the coast.

  8. We have talked about getting an RV and decided that it would be too much work. My in-laws had one and we saw what they had to do. But the idea of one is very appealing and from what I see on TV, they make some amazing RV's these days.

    1. I am not sure we will like it, so we plan on renting a couple of different models for both short and extended trips before deciding if it is for us or not. We are definitely looking at something drivable instead of towable.

  9. I think it's wonderful that you and your husband close a day by viewing a sunset. Small joys indeed.

    1. There is a west facing bluff quite near our house and every day people go to view the sunset. We try to go at least once a week.

  10. I like your sister, she sounds like my kind of people. :) Hopefully the painter gets his ducks in a row soon.

The swimming and sunsets sound lovely. Perhaps I need to get off my butt and drive out of the city one evening.

  11. Well Saturday was definitely not easy. Glad you had a nice lunch. Seriously, the swimsuit can't be that ugly! How peaceful going to see the sunset and listening to jazz.

    1. The suit is terribly unattractive, and not flattering at all, but it fits like a dream and is perfect for laps.
The sunsets are lovely, but after swimming and dinner both of us almost fell asleep!

  12. The painters don't seem to want to be paid badly enough to finish the work. Maybe they listened to this lovely music and became so relaxed they didn't feel like painting. I want to see that suit! Show us a picture, without you in it, of course. Unless you want to be in it. Swimming is a great way to exercise without injuring your feet and legs.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Just imagine a lime green one piece. Nuff said! It fits all and is a dream to swim in, but goodness it is one ugly creature. I feel like Shrek in it.
