Who Is Flunking Christmas?

Earlier, before Thanksgiving actually, I mentioned I was going to blow Christmas out this year and have everything all shiny and glittery; a literal Christmas extravaganza. What was I thinking?

Today a mere 15 days before Christmas and 8 days before Son3 and DIl3 get hereI am living in a world of half done. I put up four trees this year. DIL3 wants to decorate one so I left the one in the music room bare for her to trim however she likes.
The living room tree is completely finished with pretty wrapped presents beneath it, but the living room floor is filled with bins of ornaments and greenery and other things of a Christmas nature.
The other two trees are not looking so hot right now though. One has all the lights in place and is just waiting for the ornaments. The den tree is partially lit. Actually it has all the lights I will use on it, they are just not where I want them to go. (Try to imagine someone tired of doing everything by herself and getting a little pissy and literally just tossing strands of lights randomly on the tree) Tomorrow I have to put on my big girl pants and get them finished so I can return the cartons with tree trimming stuff out of the living room and back to their homes, so I can arrange the few remaining bits and bobs I put out for the holidays.

Fingers crossed I will finish everything this weekend so I can have a few days to get some Christmas cookies baked  and fudge made to share with friends, neighbors and of course with the family. I need a Christmas miracle or a swift kick in the backside to get me cracking!

I

Christmas sighting Day10:
I found this wire basket at Mom's and I am not sure I ever remember her using it, but I thought it might be something cute to keep our Christmas cards in. I tied a bow and stuck some baubles on the bow and called it good enough. I am not really pleased with it and if I have time I might change it___ or I might not. It just depends on my mood and time!

I hope all of you are doing better at this than I am!

  2. I am definitely doing worse. Much worse. I don't think a kick in the fundament will be enough either - a small nuclear device might be required.

    1. I might need something nuclear also, since right this minute I am sitting in front of my laptop and nothing is getting accomplished.

  3. My one little tree is not coming together. I think the ornament hangers are cheap. And, I bought new ornaments to add to last year's. So, I cannot finish until I have ornament hangers. I had high hopes! No, I am not doing better than you!

    1. I am sorry you are not doing better than me. In fact I am a sorry yard stick for anyone to measure by. Instead of doing things this morning I am sitting here drinking coffee. Just 15 more minutes___maybe.

  4. Well, considering the fact that I have not even started, yet, unless you count the fact that I put out the "No. of Days till Christmas" countdown magnet on the fridge, this evening, I think you are miles ahead of me! :D I only have one tree to decorate, though, and my plan is to have gardener M set it up in the family room, tomorrow, and bring in the bins of decorations so I can decorate it over the weekend. :)

    1. I am so sorry for anyone I am miles ahead of, because I am about as behind as I can be. Maybe today will bring some modicum of success.,

  5. I know I felt a lot better when I got all of the Christmas boxes out of the floor. I wasn't sure if I was done, but I figured it was good enough and I could always get stuff out again if I wanted. I think you're doing great. I don't have any presents wrapped. You're way ahead of me in that area and I don't decorate nearly as much as you do and certainly not as elegantly. Your son and DIL will be thrilled with everything you've done so far.

    1. If they walked in today, they would be horrified. I can live with some clutter, but right now my house looks like elves had a war and bombed each other with Christmas crap, leaving debris everywhere.

  6. I am currently the top of my class in Advanced Christmas Flunking, laying flat on my back on a heating pad. Still got packages to mail and cards to write before I can mail those too. Don't even get me started on decorating a d wrapping gifts! I could just shriek...

    1. Oh yeah cards. . . other than my cousins and the blogger card exchange, I have not even begun to write them. Another thing I am flunking. I have purchased them and they are on my kitchen table waiting for me to do something with them, so maybe I just have a D- in cards.

  7. We have a few really basic holiday routines, and have gotten those done: cardamom bread baking (although, since a hungry teenager plowed through one loaf while it was cooling, should probably make a second batch), put the tree & mantel lights up, bought & decorated gifts. It sounds like a lot, but honestly, we don't buy for many people so it's pretty quick & easy. We also occasionally let the boys open up gifts on random December nights (from each other, for example). It adds to the merriment, and we open all of our gifts before we head out of town (next Saturday) anyway.

I set the bar low, and exceed it. ;-) That's the trick!

    1. The last few years I had a very low bar and it was wonderful. This year I decided to be a smarty pants and do it all, and it is just not getting done quickly.

  8. Anne, don't be so hard on yourself- you mother just died. I know the Christmas after my husband died, things were so different but we got through it, and you know there was another Christmas the next year. I'm sure your house will look lovely and that Pip gets her present. That's the most important thing now. Both my big gifts to the grands have been delivered (American Girl chest and Big Wheel) and my 2 local grandsons just want cash.

    1. Pip's presents are there and she is the only one who really wants anything. I just want DIL3 to experience an American Christmas. (Actually much bigger and better than what we normally do)

  9. Don't stress, you'll get there. You are doing way better than I am, I haven't done even a teeny bit of decorating yet and haven't started wrapping yet either!

    1. Christmas will come one way or another. I just want/need to finish and get control of this chaos that is everywhere around me.

  10. Perhaps you need to "get lit" one evening with some good wine or whatever you drink and "git er done" lol. You can always refluff later :) So glad we did it early as no way I could do it all now.

    1. That might be a good idea but I am running out of potential evenings when I don't have something scheduled for the next morning

  11. I like Cheapchick's idea! And you know what? If it doesn't all get done, you'll probably be the only one to notice. Well, except the tree with the lights flung on it and no ornaments....they'll probably notice that one. :)

    Take care and stay well!

    1. Know what happens when you get mad and fling lights? The next day you have to take 10 strands off the tree, detangle them and start over. What a great use of my time.

  12. Well get busy and quit sitting on your butt eating bon bons, I have eaten at least 2 dozen cookies today!

    1. I am back on keto so no bon bons here. I am just a little overwhelmed and when I get like this I move form one thing to another without finishing anything, and the cycle repeats the next day.

  15. Possibly. I have all the makings for a pretty decent bender.

  16. Sounds like you're doing a great job. I've barely done anything. No one is coming over so I'm going very light this year. I also lost a week going to Arizona for Thanksgiving and I'm just out of time! Have a wonderful Christmas!
